Hey bees, please don’t take this question rudely or anything! I am simply curious because I’ve seen some posts about bees engagement rings being given to them before they were completely paid for. This peaked my interest because I am currently a “waiting” bee, specifically waiting on SO to save up to pay for the ring in full. He said he wants it to be completely “mine” before he proposes and I think that for us, it’s a good idea. So I’m wondering, how many of you ladies had the ring completely paid for when he proposed, and how many had rings given to them when payments were still being made. If you feel like sharing your stories/reasons please do! I’m genuinely curious, and each to his or her own. You can post your rings too if you’d like! Thanks bees!

Mine was completely paid for but only because he negotiated the price lower by offering to pay in cash. As long as you aren’t taking on tons of debt to buy a ring I don’t see why it has to be completely paid off in order to propose. Him making payments for 1yr at 0% interest wouldn’t make the ring seem any less “mine”

He put 2K down and put the rest on an interest free credit card. It was paid off before the promotion went away.

Mine was paid for when I got it. I wished he used the credit card (and pay it off) so we could rack up points and get cash back.

Our situation is a little unique because Fiance is in law school. He saved up enough $$ to pay for the ring over his summer position in a firm but to make sure he had a cushion should anything happen he paid 80% and the jewler is allowing him to pay the rest in monthly increments for 12 months. So while he could pay it off tomorrow this way it spreads it out more and is easier on his savings account 🙂
I still consider the ring 100% mine because he or I could pay it off tomorrow if we wanted 🙂

My fiance paid in full before giving it to me. But he only paid 3/4 of it on his own, the other 1/4 was from cash loaned to him from family member. He paid that cash back within a few mos.

All paid for. He had been saving for months.

@cutexkitty: My Fiance put it on his card to earn miles and paid it off the next week. 🙂

He paid for it in full on his credit card, which gets paid off fully every month.

Fiance paid for mine through a wire transfer.
I don’t think he ever thought it wouldnt “feel mine”. He just hates having any revolving debt if he can avoid it, plus he saved for it.

My FH paid for it in full and we paid for our wedding rings in full also.

Yep. We don’t believe in unnecessary debt and we consider an engagement ring to be “unnecessary”. We saved for the ring and purchased it when we were able to cover the entire cost.

Fully paid. Didn’t want it any other way.

Fiance paid for mine in cash so he could get a cash discount.

Completely paid for. After all once you get the ring, there’s lots of other money drainers (wedding) on the way. The ring should be paid for if you ever hope to have a debt free wedding.
