    Mine was paid for in cash. He waited until he saved what he wanted to spend to buy the ring. We pretty much dont buy anything that we dont have the cash to pay for up front.

    that makes absolutely no sense. I can acutally think of two ways that being married can save you money (in the US that is): tax breaks and health insurance (IF one partner is lucky enough to have a better health plan).

    did you mean that a wedding cannot be afforded? some people can have really low budget weddings. it’s been done. not everybody wants a big huge gala.

    It was, but it was also an heirloom stone that we inherited from his grandmother and we chose a very economically friendly setting that only cost a couple hundred dollars.  I can’t imagine Fiance would have financed a ring if we had been in the position to be buying one ourselves.  My best guess is he would have made sure it was paid for before proposing.
