Nope – I’ve never washed a single article of clothing before wearing it.  I don’t plan to start just because I have children.

I am not pregnant nor am I planning on having a baby anytime soon but yes, when the times comes I will wash the clothes first.  Companies spray chemicals on the clothes to make them look nice when they sit on the hanger. These chemicals can be irritating to adult skin so I would imagine baby skin would be a lot more sensitive. I wouldn’t wash them all ahead of time, just in case I don’t end up using some of the smaller size clothes, so I would wash it on a as needed basis.

I’ve definitely thought about this and plan to wash my baby clothes before he wears them. Clothes wills it in boxes in warehouse before being delivered to stores which means bugs or rodents could crawl all over them. They also spay them with formaldehyde to keep them looking “fresh”….. plus you don’t know who all is touching it when its in a store. Better safe than sorry but I’ve defnitly struggled with it because I hear people say keep the tags on clothes because you may not use them and can return them.

Absolutely! New clothes have chemicals and many other yucky things on them. Adult clothes often have feces/E Coli, etc. that they’ve found when doing tests on them. You should always wash new clothes first. For babies, yes, because of the chemicals. It could irriatate their sensitive skin.

I washed all the baby clothes when my kids were infants before they wore them.  Now that they’re grade school age, I am a little more lax about it, but I definitely always wash pajamas and underwear at the very least.

    From the article above:

There are a couple of reasons to wash new clothes once before you wear them for the first time. One is to remove or diminish the chemical finishes that manufacturers put on clothes to make them look better, and the other is to rinse out excess dye.

Finishes won’t bother everyone who puts on a new pair of pants, but there are some people with sensitive skin who could develop a rash. Babies’ clothes should always be washed before they are worn because babies can be particularly sensitive to chemicals.

I always wash new clothes before wearing them, so I will definitely do it for my children as well. I’ve heard that clothes are actually very “dirty” right from the store.

I washed them before she wore them up until she was 3 months because newborn have very delicate skin. Now I don’t bother, although we still use unscented baby detergent on her stuff.

Yes, It’s different with baby clothes as with your own – babies are sensitive to the chemicals present in new clothes and fabrics and it all needs to be washed in a mild detergent before they wear them.

Yes. And I work in retail. People bring things back all the time and many times if it looks “okay” its not damanged out and put back on the floor. Folks have nasty home habits and anything going on my kid I would take precautions with.

I absolutely would and I wash almost everything before wearing. The only time I don’t is if I buy something to wear in a pinch out of necessity and don’t have time to wash it.

    New clothes aren’t clean clothes.

The only time I do was “new clothes” is if I get them from a garage sale or from a consignment shop for munchkin. Clothes bought at the store, nope don’t wash the first time around.
