We had everything planned, but called it off. Now we are really ready and are planning for a spring wedding. Do you have any suggestions for restaurant venues? We got rid of all the old ideas and are starting new. This time we are doing the ceremony in a garden and would like to head over to a restaurant. We don’t want the stress of flowers, decorations, cleaning, etc.
Are restaurant receptions popular and are they dull? I only been to two weddings, so I’m clueless to these things.

My restaurant reception was amazing. We wanted a cocktail party atmosphere, and that’s exactly what we got (we did not do a seated/plated dinner). Our guests loved it.
I don’t know DC or the metro area very well, but of the few restaurants I’ve been to there, my favorite by far was Matisse. http://www.matisserestaurantdc.com/
I had dinner there with a large group and remember it coming up in conversation that bigwig politicians have had parties there, and we thought it would be a great place for a wedding reception.
ETA: La Tomate could be very cool, too. http://latomatebistro.com/

How many people are you inviting? Start from there…and then head over to Yelp.com to look for restaurants that are “good for groups”. Read the reviews, and see which you like…and then look at their website. They may have a “private events” section; otherwise, contact them and ask about a party of the size you need.

If you’re looking in DC, the Washington Post’s restaurant critic takes questions every Wednesday online. (washingtonpost.com) I would submit your question to his chat. For my part, I love Proof and Pearl Dive, but it depends on your budget, time of day, etc etc.
