Your skin never really gets used to it, but you will have to do it 2 or 3 times for all the hairs to be removed. Hair grows at different speeds, so for example the first time you go you will get 80% of the hairs out, the hairs that are the right length, (it will look hairless but there will be some tiny hairs left) then wait for a few weeks and go back and you will get the smaller hairs that you didn’t the first time. If that makes sense? It’s basically getting your hairs to sync up so they can be removed better. It’s always good to exfoliate the day before a wax and the day after a wax, and then once a week with a good exfoliating mit. To keep the ingrown hairs at bay, you can also ask your salon for a anti-ingrown hair creme or solution. 🙂 and I know it totally feels awesome after a wax but try not to touch because it can cause infection

ina77: I have waxed my legs and don’t feel like I needed time to get used to it. Waxing is great, shaving is not. I did not have any complications, but I think you can try once now to see what it’s like. Then decide when to go back.

I am interested in getting my bikini and legs waxed as well for our wedding and honeymoon and am super nervous! I tried bikini wax at home with clay wax and didn’t go to well. It hurt, but was bareable, but it didn’t pull out all the hairs so I just shaved instead. Is it better to go to a salon for first time waxers?

I was my legs and there’s really no need to “get your skin used to it” as that never really happens. You’ll have to do two or three treatments to make sure you get all the hair (or you can shave after your first or second one.)

I use wax strips for my legs and I’ve only had one bikini wax (Never again), so I can’t really help on that front but waxing your legs doesn’t really hurt. Take a rubber band, put it around your wrist and snap it. That’s the worst you’ll get.

Exfoliate the day after (Not the same day) in the shower with a gentle exfoliation puff (I use a thing called the buff puff, I got it at Walgreens, it’s orange and in the shape of a teardrop, meant for your face) and you won’t have any ingrowns if you moisturize well.

I might be an oddity- but I’ve only found that waxing only lasts me 4-5 days. Which is hardly worth the cost/pain to me. But lots of women swear by it. I still wax my eyebrows, but other than that I’ve never really been happy with the results.

Check out European Wax center. They use an all natural bees wax, least painful experience I’ve ever had. It adheres to the hair and not skin. So no snapping effect. They have great products as well. Also, coconut oil does wonders.

try going in for 3 sessions for just your bikini/Brazilian and see how it feels and let your skin acclimate and you get used to how your body reacts. Also, you can see if you gravitate towards a certain wax specialist. You should not worry about leg waxing, just do all your waxing 2-3 days before your wedding assure maximum smoothness and minor irritation. Leg waxing is easy, but the growing out portion sucks, haha kinda ishy if you aren’t used to it.

good luck op! 🙂

ina77: I’m very prone to ingrowns so I am opting for laser and shaving in between. Brazilian waxes will give me in growns that last about a year, even with exfoliation.

Leg waxing really doesn’t hurt and I don’t think that you will need to prepare for that. But I agree with the brazillian try a few times. And do not go the day before your wedding – you may not want to do anything with it the night of lol

I’ve waxed plenty, it’s not that bad. Can’t speak to legs tho (I find shaving, even daily, super easy but more personal areas are much much better suited to waxing than shaving! heehee) It is better when you’re in the habit of it than the first time. Fewer hairs per wax, newer hairs that aren’t so rooted. I would start waxing a few months before your wedding so you’re used to it. Maybe do it 2-4 times before. If it was me I’d go in about 3-5 days before my wedding. Good luck! It’s worth it. ;

ps- Brazilians are less popular than they used to be (one of my close friends is an aesthetician and i read this in magazines, too). if you want something easier you might try just a very neat style with clean sides and underneath. like a cute lil triangle hahah (tmi?;)) still has the same good honeymoon benefits, less painful, quicker, and a common choice these days. also you get to look like a full grown woman still! lol!
