I’m so grossed out right now.
I’ve been waxing for 10+ years. I go to the same cute little salon and love my esthetician. A friend who goes to the same place read an article about double-dipping and asked our esthetician if she does that and she said YES.
Double dipping is when they use a stick to apply wax on you – then, instead of throwing out the applicator and use another one – put it back in the jar of wax.
I started doing some research online and it’s a BIG no-no because while the wax is hot enough to kill bacteria, it isn’t enough to kill viruses – such as HPV. I’m sooooo grossed out.
For those that wax – find out if they double-dip. I would have bet money that this particular place single-dips – but it wasn’t true!!!

ugh. That’s disgusting. I hope you say something to them about it! At least let them know how much it concerns you and that they lost your business for it.
Truthfully, though, maybe they don’t know how dangerous it is… they may need informed.

That is really gross … I can’t believe that they would do that!

Wait – do you not see them stick the stick back in the wax? I can see my esthetician throw each stick in a trash can after using it on my neather regions and would know if she tried to double dip. Isn’t it all kind of happening right there in front of you?

@Mrs.KMM: When I get my eyebrows/lip done, I’m laying down, with the wax jar behind my head – so I don’t see. When I get my bikini done, I’m laying down – with my head facing the same way as jar – but I’m usually looking at the ceiling – not watching how she’s applying or what she’s doing with the sticks. And – quite honestly, it never even dawned on me that they would do that!!
Hope this is a Public Service Announcement to everyone to watch their technicians!
