@ August…methinks you need a new waxer?  Couldn’t put your arms down.  That’s ridiculous.  And grew back quickly? It should take about 4 weeks for that mess to get back.  Sounds like your waxer merely tore the hairs off and didnt pull them from the root.  That usually happens when the skin is pulled.  Sorry it was so painful!

From my experience, I second kittyachi’s advice to do a trial run ASAP. Then after 6 weeks or so you can do it the week before your wedding if you like it. Plus, the second trip should be easier.

I had my first wax earlier this summer and although it didn’t hurt during or right after, I was red for 3 days and just was not nice at all. I am sure this had more to do with my skin than the waxer.

I get a brazilian wax done regularly every four to five weeks.  It’s best if the hair is a on the longer side but don’t let it get too long otherwise it will hurt more!  Also, try to avoid having it done the week before your period since it does make your skin more sensitive.  I think everyone is differnt in terms of how painful it is.  When I spoke to my girlfriends before my first time, the responses ranged from "the worst pain ever" to "whatever".  I didn’t think it was that bad (i.e., definitely not the most painful thing ever) but it’s not exactly comfortable either.  I keep on going back!

@Miss Calculator:  Brazilian is all off, which includes the behind (but I leave a little landing strip).  Bikini waxes can mean anything from a "french" bikini which is all off the front but excludes the behind or just the 2 to 3 inches along the leg line.  I personally like the results of the brazilian but it’s all about personal choice and preference.  You can always try the regular bikini wax if you are uncomfortable with the thought of a brazilian and see how you feel about it after.

I am going to go for the underarm wax.  I will deal with a few weeks of unshaved underarms and will let you all know how it goes!  Thanks for the advice!

Ok Underarms are awesome to wax, the gross part is growing it out to be long enough to wax it. It’s gotta be really long for a really good wax. It’s so worth it, no stubble, hair grows in softer. I love doing it.

The bikini, also needs to be grown out for a long time. it hurts, i’m not gonna lie, also you have to worry about ingrown hairs, which i’m prone too, but if your waxer does it right, it won’t be as bad.

I think the biggest key is growing it out as long as you can so the wax is clean and even. Hairs grow at different rates,  so they all have to be long enough to pull. Once you get on a schedule of waxing, it will train the hair to grow almost at the same time. You’ll never wanna go back

Definately do a trial run beforehand…make sure you don’t have a bad reaction.  Also, then you can tell how long it will take to grow out.

Also go to a place that uses hard brazilian wax not soft wax with strips.  It hurts a whole lot less and lasts a lot longer.

I would recommend doing it about four days in advance.

@Miss Calculator, I would recommend getting the brazilian done if you’re already going to get a bikini wax.  The part that makes it brazilian, believe it or not, is the least painful part.

I was terrified of my first professional bikini wax and experimented the month before with a take home kit.  I discovered that when I trim my hair to 1/4" and pull the skin super-tight, it doesn’t hurt nearly as badly.  I second the Advil recommendation.  Mine started growing back about 5-7 days after.  Watch out; it itches. 🙂
