My hair stylist (and eyebrow waxer) is the main waxer at the salon I go to. We were talking one day about waxing, and I asked her what the main dynamic of her customers were. She said she probably had more pregnant women than any other “group” she could think of. She said they all came in regularly, and especially if they had a doctor’s appointment coming up. I guess some women hit a point where it gets difficult to keep themselves up and are embarrassed to go to the doctor looking like a hairy beast. 🙂

I still do it. I’ve read that many women find that it hurts more, but I always think it hurts…. the only issue now is that I can’t have a shot of vodka or a few ibuprofen before heading in! (yes, I used to go to a place that offered you a shot of vodka before your waxing)

My current waxing lady says she does pregnant ladies all the time, her only request for them is to not wait till you’re 8 months preggo to come in for your first appointment because then it’s way harder than if you’d been keeping it up.

I’d say it’s fine – My waxing lady said that pregnant women come in all the time!  She said she always does an extra through job getting stray hairs and such during appointments just before honeymoons and births.  Gotta look good down there! Wink

My aesthetician says that she gets LOTS of preggo ladies. She says it’s probably because you can’t see things down there and because it’s an aveda salon, it’s all natural, organic wax, etc.

I’m sure it’s probably pretty common with pregnant women especially if they’re used to regular grooming and can’t see to do it themselves.

OMG really?! I mean I used to wax too, but since I’ve gotten pregnant and I’m on pelvic rest AND I can’t see anything down there I’ve totally forgotten it exists.

Maybe I should think about making an appointment. I havent had one sine June right before my wedding. I would probably have to do some pre grooming though. haha!

I did up until 39 weeks.  I just wanted everything to be in order for delivery and recovery 🙂

I think that waxing during pregnancy is totally fine … and from a nurses perspective, while we don’t get too concerned about it, we do appreciate when our patients take care of their grooming and things are tidy down there …

@Ms Mini:

Interesting – that’s the opposite of what my nurse practitioner told me (though she’s not in OB).  She discouraged me from waxing (esp. brazilians) because she said it led to more irritation and infections in the pubic area.  I guess there’s not a consensus. 🙂

Yes!  Perfectly fine to wax while pregnant!  I waxed during all 4 of my pregnancies.

@mightywombat: If you are a regular waxer, then it will not lead to more irritation, and there are a lot of fluids and such to contend with – a hair-free  area is easier to clean/keep clean!

i may need to venture into getting waxed, but I know how much my eyebrows hurt and I’ve gotten them done for years…

I think it’s fine and safe but the thought of it right now makes me queasy – I feel extra sensitive and don’t think I could cope with the pain!  Hopefully as the first trimester finishes and the second starts up I’ll be able to start doing it again.  For now I’m back to Lady Bic!
