I feel like I’ve tried everything.
This morning I woke up with a killer one. I didn’t have to work so I stayed in bed, had some crackers and yogurt, and then took some meds. I went back to sleep because that always seems to help me. It felt like it was almost gone but I just lazed in bed thinking it would finally go the rest away. Nope.
Now it’s back. And I have the shakes and everything too. It’s mostly just on one side of my head. It’s noon now and I have a list a mile long of things I needed to do today. This just makes me mad. So I got up, showered, got a little food, and took some more meds (a different kind). Nope. Head still hurts. Any other ideas?
I have a lovely annotated bibliography I need to work on today…

Migraines are just awful, so I’m really sorry you’re dealing with that today! For me, all that ever works is a lot of cold water, some saltine crackers, a shower, and sleep. I know you tried that already, but if you can, I would just try for another 30 minute nap, just to see if you can shake it after drinking lots of water.

I’ve had migraines for years… so I feel your pain! 2 aleve and a Coke usually works for me – the caffeine helps a lot.

I drown mine with caffeine! And sleep with a pillow over my head.

Aleve and caffeine, definitely! Also try to take a shower if you can.

I second the caffiene answer. I find putting food such as crackers into my system helps too.

I get the worst sinus migraines… what has always worked for me is to get one of those “nose sucker” things they give babies in the hospital and suck the junk out of your face. Sounds gross but it works wonders when paired with a decongestant and some naproxen.

I suffer from these too. I only take the heavy duty stuff. caffeine, aleve, and everything else does not dent the pain. I get disoriented, nauseous, and am just a mess. I hope you feel better soon.

I feel your pain-I’ve been a migraine sufferer for a couple of years now and it’s horrible to not be able to get rid of them. When nothing else works for me, I usually take a wash cloth and put it in cold water and put it on my forehead and then just try to sleep it off. I’ve also heard that putting one on your neck helps. Drinking cool water may also help to give you some relief.

I get tons of migraines and what works for me is Excedrin, soda or coffee, and resting my eyes. Definitely stay away from the computer! I know WB is addicting, but there’s something about the screen that makes migraines worse.

I don’t know if anything other than time really makes migraines go away. I have one starting now and I don’t have anything with me. I have Maxalt (a triptan), but they are at home.
So I’m making do with three Aleve and Diet Coke, because that is what I have at work. Honestly, I find that Maxalt, Midrin, and Extra-Strength Exedrin all work about the same for me. I”m guessing Maxalt probably does work better, but because I hesiitate to take it due to cost, I usually end up taking it a bit too late.
The best thing IMHO is probably being alone and lying down in a cool, dark, quiet room. The problem is that there is never time for that…
But if you do have time for that, adding two Benadryl helps make you sleepy…so you can take a nap and hopefully sleep the worst of it off. At least if you are asleep you don’t know you’re in pain.

I’ve had migraines since I was 5, so I feel for you!
Honestly out of all the prescription drugs that I’ve tried, taking 3 Excedrine Migraines works best for me. I think its the caffeine that helps regulate the pulsing in your head.

You know, I’m an excedrin migraine + sleep girl too. And I wanted to mention that getting a neck and shoulder massage helps relieve tension, gets blood flowing back into your brain and definitely makes ms feel better. Are you shoulders tight? You can even get a little relief by laying on a tennis ball under the pressure point. Feel better, dear 🙂

I don’t get migraines so I am not sure if this is true.
But I heard that if you know your signs of a coming migraine, drink half a glass of warm water with a few teaspoons of honey and that will help. Maybe it is worth a try?

i frequently get migraines. I take 2 excedrin migraine and stay away from light and any physical activity. When I climb a set of steps that really makes it worse. Lay down if you can. Migraines are just awful.
