There are plenty of ways to do it on the “cheap.” You can still do a destination wedding on the beach – just maybe more locally instead of somewhere exotic. The pix will still be beautiful! If you want to save on a dress, find one for resale, or find a pretty dress at a shop like Macy’s or JCrew. A lot of times photographers (as with mine) will cut a HUGE deal on a 2-hour elopement shoot as opposed to an all-day affair. Our photog normally is paid about $3500-$5000 for a Saturday wedding. We had her for 2 hours and paid $500. Ask if they have elopement packages or if they’ll price it as an “engagement session” package.

Good luck!

@sillyquirky:  I googled photographers in the area that we were going to get married. Looked several up on their websites, so their portfolios, and emailed several. Only two replied (I guess the others didn’t need any more business – *snark*) and really connected with one of them. So we went with her, and she was awesome!

Be sure to keep us on the loop with your plans..it’s very exciting!

We just eloped last week in Virginia and the costs were all pretty good.  I ordered my dress from lightinthebox for less than $250 then paid about $250 for alterations and steaming, we hired a photographer for 2 hours for $500, and a celebrant who did a custom service for $200.  I purchased extras (flowers, charms, a sash, and a vintage pin for my sash) on etsy all for less than $200 total.  We stayed at and had the wedding at a B&B we had visited before and had a LivingSocial deal for both times.  Not counting rings we paid just a little over $1500 for the entire thing, I got everyrhing planned within a week, and we got married less than 3 months after our engagement.

It can be done.  πŸ™‚

ETA:  we actually hired an associate photographer and it was half the price of the main guy…another way to save on costs.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  What a bluebird day for you too!

I see you went with a different dress that wasn’t in your other post.  I love it above all the rest!
