I am sooo excited I just can’t contain myself! Boyfriend or Best Friend and I bought a ring this morning!!!!! Well we put down a deposit at a custom jeweler, and the ring will be ready in a few days, then my Boyfriend or Best Friend will go in and pay the rest. But we’ve picked out the setting and diamond and everything.
The diamond is gorgeous 1.02 carat, G color, VS1, ideal cut Canadian mined. The other one we could have chosen was 1 carat F colour SI1 clarity ideal cut Belgian, but we live in Canada, so it makes more sense to get one from here. Plus it did look a little nicer. They were pretty much the same price too. Oh and the Canadian one has a lazer engraved serial/registration number that will be registered in our name with the Canadian Government, so if anything ever happens to it, it can be traced. I don’t have a picture of the setting, because it’s a little different than the one we originally picked out, but still very pretty. I will definitly post a photo when I get it!
Boyfriend or Best Friend and I have decided that he will not let me know when he picks it up, and that he’s going to plan something special to present it to me. We’ve also decided that we won’t be “officially” engaged until he presents me with the ring. Which kind of sucks because I’m so excited and I want to tell people and start planning. But it makes more sense to both of us to have the ring, then we won’t have that awkward “If you’re engaged, where’s the ring?” And we won’t be getting married until next fall/winter (2013) anyways.

Congraulations! That’s super exciting. My SO and I went a couple weeks ago and he put the down payment on mine. He’s keeping it a secret when he picks it up so he can officially propose to me. That being said, we’ve been talking wedding things a lot lately, and have really started planning. It’s so exciting!

That is really exciting!! What kind of setting did you pick out for your diamond? I’ve never heard of laser engraving for diamonds–how do they do that without hurting the appearance of the diamond?

Similiar thing happened to me and my bf. He and I picked out a ring, and he paid it off over time. Then when he brought it home, he SHOWED me!! Talk about teasing me? It’s like having a brand new sports car in the driveway that I say is his, but he can’t have the keys!!!
With that said, he wants to make it a special day to give it to me. I am about 4 days away (I think!) He’s planned a hr long carriage ride on Thursday, and keeps telling me that he’s bringing his camera, and I should dress nice….lol
I’ll keep you posted!!

@Beautiful Bluegrass: We’re planning on a longer engagement (talking about getting married fall/winter 2013) because I’m in school right now and working full time and have some courses that I have to take for work, so I wouldn’t really be able to get into planning until probably July our August of this year, so I don’t want to start buying anything until we start deciding on what we want to get.
shirasagi: lazer engraving is on the girdle of the diamond and is super super tiny. You can only see it under 20X magnification. It also just etches the outer layer of the girdle. It’s super super tiny. The jeweler showed us where it would be under 10X magnification and you can’t see it. We compared it to the other diamond that doesn’t have the lazer engraving under 10X magnification and you couldn’t tell the difference.
This was the inspiration for the ring. We were actually going to get that exact ring, but they didn’t have any diamonds I liked in our price range. The biggest we could get was 0.76 carats, and not as clear or colourless as the one we bought. Our setting is a little lower profile too. The main thing I liked about it was the sapphire detail in it, since sapphire is my birthstone. From the top it just looks like a classic 4 prong setting.
