- Wedding: November 2014
Well, this has been one hell of a weekend…I had my bridal shower on Sunday, and my Fiance and I just learned last night that our offer was accepted on a house! We signed the official paperwork today and have the inspection this week; hoping to close in late October (they offered to move it up but because we don’t want to move until after our wedding – Nov 15 – we told them to take their time!). We had a bit of an emotional roller coaster this past weekend…we placed an offer on Friday, after the house had been on the market for almost four months with no offers…then all of a sudden, two more offers were submitted after ours! So we really didn’t think we were going to get it, but alas, we did! I’m so relieved because it is truly my (realistic) dream house and none of the others we looked at compared!
It’s a brand new construction, craftsman-style colonial. 2,450 sq/ft and 4 bedrooms/3 bathrooms!
the landscaping obviously needs some serious love!
I am obsessed with the kitchen!
Okay, enough with my squee-ing; I do have some questions. The area we are in is great and exactly what we wanted, but it is an old neighbourhood and close to the city. So that means city lots! We’re talking 6500 sq/ft (and that is considered a “large” city lot!)! Plopping a 2500 sq/ft house, plus detached garage, on a lot that size leaves very little room for outdoor landscaping and entertaining. I unfortunately don’t have a photo of the back yard, but what many people think of as a normal sized deck would pretty much take up the entire thing! I would love some creative input and ideas for making the most of our outdoor space. Those with similarly small outdoor space, please share your photos or experiences if you have a deck/patio/entertaining area!
My second question is this: has anyone bought a house with a SO before getting married, then changed the paperwork after? I will need to change both my name as well as our marital status. Is this a gigantic headache? Our realtor made it sound like it was fairly straight forward, but in my experience, stuff like that almost never is.
Alright, I think that’s it! Thanks in advance for any input! Just for fun, a photo from my shower, which was a great time!! 🙂
My wonderful sister, mom, grandmother, (me), and aunt!
