No. Don't paint. Just clean it up and leave the natural brick. : (27 votes)

Yay it’s working now.  Wow that’s amazing!  You had a great drywall guy fixing up the wall behind!

I think the inside with brick looks a bit weird compared to the light colors.  What type of paint do you use that is fire resistant and won’t cause chemicals to be released in the house though?

    Ooo very nice!

I think I like the idea of painting it black.  Otherwise it might be too busy with the brick plus what looks like small tiles around the opening.

I think I’d paint it.  I agree with MissAsB that the contrast between the brick and the light colors seems off to me.

YOU GUYS DID A FANTASTIC JOB! IT LOOKS WORTHY OF BEING ON THE DIY CHANNEL OR MAG!. I voted for paint it black, and really make it look super finished, plus it will eventually get black anyway, you’re just hurrying the process.

If you intend to use the fireplace it’s going to be black anyhow. So your choice is do you want it partly black or all black?

Wow what a transformation! To me the lightness with the tile reminds me of almost a bathroom type feel ( and I don’t mean that in a bad way). When I think fire place, i usually picture marble, brick or stone! if it won’t be used and its just more of a conversation piece, then it may work well!
