I JUST finished printing mine today too! Doesn’t it feel great?!
Love your invites. The yellow really pops and the overall feeling is, well, inviting. 🙂
How is it that you had access to the machine?
Thanks Ladies!
I posted this in the other thread but I figure I’ll post it here too.
@ms.moonlight I started getting interested in letter pressing about 21/2 years ago so I found a studio where I can take classes and meet up with like minded people. When I got engaged I knew there was no way I will pay someone to do something I love so much. I was able to rent the studio for $15 an hour since I am a member of the art studio. My planner designed all the invitations, ordered the plates from boxcar, I ordered all my paper products from Anchor paper (Tom Peterson was my POC), and with the help of my Fiance, Bridesmaid or Best Man R, and letter press instructor we got it done.
There were stressful times here and there like when I ordered the exact size paper I wanted instead of 1 inch extra on all sides or the fact that I printed the first color (yellow) crooked on every single paper so my awesome Fiance had to crop the invites to exact size so we can print the second color (gray). There were lost of measuring and trial due to my printing every single invitation crooked with the first color.
The most important thing is my Fiance, Bridesmaid or Best Man, and instructor were very patient and reassuring. All in all I did the first color 5 hours over Labor day weekend and did the second color 4.5 hours today. I am just happy it is done. Now off to gocco’ing the rest of my paper products.
All my paper came out to be $70
the plates were $240
Studio time was about $150
Will I do this again yes. I absolutely love letter pressing. It is not for everyone but for some reason once all the dimensions are figured out and you start printing it is such a stress reliever.
If you have questions or need to find resources in your area let me know.
@Mochacoca: w-o-w. these are fantastic! i’ve always loved yellow in weddings 🙂 i applaud you for printing these on your own…i’m in love with the idea of letterpressing but the farthest i’ve gotten is buying a gocco 🙂 you’re a motivation for me to get off my butt and take a class!
Thanks Ms. Ostrich. You know I have a gocco but for some reason I cannot get a hang of it so it has sat there through out the whole wedding planning.
Very cool! Do you need to have a special type of paper to letterpress?
@BlueChampagne I have printed on all sorts of paper so no for general letterpress printing you don’t need a specific paper. However, for something like invitations you want something that will show off the impression so cotton paper like Crane lettra is awesome. There are other less expensive cotton paper out there besides crane. I just like crane letrra so that is what I used. Hope this helps?
