That is what I anticipated for my wedding, and we ran out… people drink a lot more than you think when they’re having fun and it’s free.

Over how many hours?  That is not that bad.  If it was over four hours, that’s 1.25 drinks per person per hour…which is like nothing.

Oh geez, this scares me! We’re trying to decide on whether to have an open bar or a $2 bar. I want an open bar, but I’m scared that people will drink like fish, and it’ll cost a fortune!

I’m expecting the same, or more…most of our guests are musicians, the reception is at a music venue that most of us perform at regularly, where a delicious local micro-brew is on tap and the bartenders make killer cosmos, so I expect the drink to be flowing all day.

Hmmm…ya, how long was your reception?  I’m trying to determine keg size right now, in fact and I’m torn between 1.5 kegs or 2.  That’s like a 75 glass difference.

@jules28:  Can you do half and half? Like beer and soft drinks are covered but anything else is out of pocket?

edit – well, they’re tiny glasses.  That’s not bad.

@jules28:  Can you have an open bar until the bill has hit a certain amount and then switch to a $2 bar?

At our wedding I know several people hit the bar and got 2 or 3 drinks when there was only like 30 minutes left so they could get their fill. When its free people drink! its crazy! Sometimes its better to pay by hour instead of by consumption if you have the option. totally depends on the crowd.

5 drinks per in tiny glasses is really nothing.  I am just going to get a bunch of alcohol and cross my fingers…and probably move people who want to keep drinking downtown afterwards!  The venue I chose doesn’t allow a cash bar.

@mypinkshoes:  I was thinking the same thing… 5 for me or the SO would be considered a very tame night. haha.

@WillyNilly and @brenda.m.fields: Good idea—I think that’s probably what we’ll do; some combination of both, or a cut-off point. I have a lot of heavy drinkers coming to my wedding!

@vmec: Congrats on your wedding! Sounds like everyone was having a good time! 🙂
