I know it’s for the best but it was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make.
We adopted our dog from a friend who was moving to NYC and wasn’t able to take her. When we got her she was very itchy and her owner had also sent with her 10 different itchy skin treatments. I switched her food as soon as we got her realizing she had an allergy and it wasn’t just a skin issue. Then she started having accidents in the house, which according to her previous owner, had never happened before. One day I noticed that she had a large stone in urine. Come to find out this was also an issue from the gluten. We switched her food but 3 different vets gave us the opinion that she actually had permanent damage from having been fed this food for the first 4 years of her life, and would continue to make these bladder stones and would continue to have accidents. The accidents got worse. She started peeing in her sleep when on the couch or in our bed. Then she started peeing on me. Being pregnant I was concerned about what it could do to me. My doctor and the vet both suggested that we give her to someone else.
It’s been totally heartbreaking for me. I feel like I had to give away one baby in turn to have another (obviously the human life is more important), but I’m so torn up about it.
Thanks for listening.
