Hello girls, I have some really sad news we have had a burglary at the vicarage, luckily there wasn’t much in the house, they took my jewelry and some cash and the DVD player, luckily our telly is ancient and I had my laptop with me, so it’s not everything, but we feel so violated. The little rats have knifed the sofa and smashed lots crockery and flower pots, but the worst is they have also ripped our bedding and ripped open our mattress, I hate the idea of someone going into our bedroom, and touching my underwear (it has been thrown out of the draws).
We spent this evening re potting the smashed plants and eating baked beans out of borrowed plates.
Sorry that this isn’t really relevant, I’m just feeling so down.

Oh wow I am so sorry! How sad and scary! Do you have an alarm system or the $$ to put one in now? Id make sure to get all your locks changed, just in case. Do you have renters or home owners insurance to cover teh cost of the stolen/damaged items?

OMG that is so horrible! I am so sorry this happened to you. So lucky that you weren’t there and are both safe.

ugh, that would make you feel violated(especially the part about your undies!) glad no one was home though so you both are safe and sound

That’s horrible 🙁 We got broken into in January and it was more traumatic than I ever could have imagined, especially since like you we didn’t lose all *that* much. Just the thought that people were there made me feel all kinds of icky, so I totally know how you feel. Be patient and kind to yourself! (And change the locks, upgrade security, do whatever you need to feel safe again.) All the best.

thanks girls, we have insurance , but we have no idea what it covers though, we’ll have to dig out the paperwork in the morning. A window was smashed to get in, so we aren’t worried about the locks at the moment, no alarm, and to be honest we probably wont fit one now!
The most of the stuff is damage, which is upsetting and annoying – no plates! but not the be all and end all, the worst is them touching my knickers and bra’s and loosing my jewelery, but since my dressing table has been tipped over, we’ll have to look in the morning.
We tidied up our room best as we could and turned over the mattress, the rest can wait

i am so sorry to hear that! did you already notify the police?

That sounds terrible I’m so sorry. Is your house close to the church? Did anyone see anything?

I’m so sorry this happened to you!
I hope you are able to get some rest tonight and the police are able to get you some answers!

This happened to us in November. It was a horrible experience. I felt vulnerable and violated and… angry! I still feel angry when I think about it for too long. My underwear was rifled through also, I through them all in the wash immediately! And they took all of our electronics, and my most precious jewelry. That’s the part that kills me, plus the pictures of our travesl that I can’t replace, they were on my laptop (which I’d like to remind everyone to back up, just in case!). Ugh! But, everyone’s right, its great that you’re ok, things could of been worse.

We have called the police, they did what they could, but they can’t do much. They are going to keep tabs on any jewelry and DVD players being sold dodgily, and my Fiance is going to ask in church!
thats all we can do at the moment, I’m working till 3 today so I’ll have to start the tidy up then!

Oh no, I’m so sorry! I agree it is such a horrible feeling of violation to know someone has rummaged through your things. My apartment was broken into almost 10 years ago and it still creeps me out to think that they went through my things, and could have looked at my photos, etc. Hopefully your insurance will cover your broken & missing items and you will feel at home in your home again!

I’m so sorry this happened to you! How awful! I’m sorry they knifed through your mattress and furniture…I hope your insurance helps things.
If it’s any consolation…my FI’s brother and his wife (also my very good friend) had their car broken into on their wedding night. The police knocked on their hotel room door not even 10 minutes after they got there, and they basically spent the night at the police station. They stole much of their things they had packed for their honeymoon…but in a matter of a few days the police were actually able to identify the culprits and get most of their stuff back. Take heart! You might see your stuff again too! I certainly hope you do! In the meantime I hope you’re receiving lots of help from friends and family! I’m sure this is a bonding experience with the FI!

Hiya, im so sorry this has happened to you. I know that it can feel like a real invasion of your privacy.
I also never really understand why they take the time (and risk the noise) of smashing stuff up, why not just take what they want and get out?
I would suggest taking lots of pictures for evidence, and also get the police round. Ive heard of a few cases where different houses along the street will get robbed by teh same people, so if you can get fingers prints etc that coudl reallyhelp catch them.
One thing I would loook for straight away is whether they have taken any of your spare house/cars keys, and get the broken window replaced.
Get teh house back to normal as quickly as piossible and youll probably feel a little better.
hope you’re ok chick xoxo

Oh my goodness, that is absolutely awful!
What little [email protected]#ts! excuse my language, but seriously how frustrating, they gain nothing from ripping your bedding and ripping your mattress!
Sounds like it could have been much worse if you were home alone, so its good to hear that you are safe!
