- Wedding: June 2012
(Warning: this post is filled with run-on sentences that I am too giddy to edit…sorry!)
As promised, SO took me ring shopping today!!
First of all, we ate lunch with his mom and he mentioned we were going ring shopping. His mom says “Rings!! What kind of rings?” And he says “Oh, engagement rings,” with a sly smirk. She was all excited, and I guess it’s officially no longer a secret between us that we’re going to get engaged! I was so shocked that he felt so comfortable about the whole thing that he would mention it to his mom.
We went to Jared’s first and they took down all our info and I tried on a bunch of beeeeautiful rings. J was attentive and interested the whole time and gave input and oohed and aahed over the rings and everything. We decided on a 1ct cushion cut (though we’ll still be going with moissanite) in an antique-ish setting (totally NOT what I ever thought I would want in a million years…I’m so glad we went and looked together instead of just ordering online with what I thought I wanted because I would have been one unhappy camper). He had so much fun looking at all of the ones I tried on and when we got in the car he asked me to explain channel set vs. pavé, and what milgrain was. I found a wedding set that I’m kinda in love with there but it was the last one in the store and it’s discontinued so they can’t reorder it and the one they had was 2x my ring size and would probably cost a pretty penny to resize, so I might have to just let that one go.
Next stop was a local place and we saw SOOOO many gorgeous settings there, we spent over an hour there and the saleslady was such a good sport about my indecisiveness and I found a setting I’m totally in love with there, but it was out of our budget, so I’m now looking for a similar one online. I found a runner-up from Shane Co…see pics below.
At dinner afterwards (mmm, Chipotle) we talked about wedding stuff and I teased if he was going to make me wait forever until he buys the ring/proposes. He said no because he doesn’t want to wait any longer. Then I joked about the Stevie Wonder song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and said that we should get married on a “Saturday within the month of June”, and he said that he actually thought June is a good month for getting married in. And I actually do agree. So, a tentative wedding date is set for June 2012 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I also said that I really want to be able to share the news with my Grandma in real life instead of over the phone (she lives 8hrs away in North Carolina and I rarely get to see her anymore) and right now she’s planning to come up with my aunt for my graduation on June 17th…so I think he may propose sometime that weekend while she’s here!! (If she does end up coming. Plans for that are very up in the air still.)
This is all just. Oh my god. There are no words. It is so surreal in the best possible way to actually be (pre-)wedding planning in real life now instead of just secretly/in my head/in my secret “w” folder on my computer!
Here are pics of the Shane Co ring that’s a similar style to what we liked in the stores:
Now I just have to wait (im)patiently until we decide for sure on a ring, order it, order the stone, wait for them both to come in the mail (the setting is going to have to be a custom order because of sizing so it’s going to take EVEN FRIGGIN’ LONGER than normal D: ), take the stuff around to jewelers to find one who works with moissanite, possibly have to send it all to Moissanite Co. if no local jewelers will touch it, wait for whoever to set it, and wait for him to decide on the perfect moment to ask….GAH. I am just gonna go nuts. But on the bright side…I’m GETTING ENGAGED probably really freakin’ soon. I seriously can’t even believe it. Waiting ladies, you have kept me sane for the past six months or so…help me hold on a little bit longer.
