SO and I were in a jewelry store today getting his mom a Channukah gift, and I was browsing a little, looking at the earrings and gemstones (pretty!!) when he wanders over to the ring case and goes “This is the stuff she wants, over here!” And of course the saleslady (who was super nice) comes over and starts taking stuff out. We spent some time trying things on and talking cut and weight and setting. I had wanted to see stuff on my hand to get an idea of what I might like. Now I’m even more confused!! It turns out–they are all gorgeous! I think I’d be thrilled with any of them! Here’s the lame part: I texted my mom to give her the heads up (cause I was excited) and I get back: “How will that work with grad school?” (She had already been giving me grief about grad school earlier). I reminded her that she herself had a long engagement (two+ years) for no reason other than they didn’t know what kind of wedding they wanted. Seriously. My parents were living together, engaged, for over two years with no date set because they just didn’t devote the time to it. When I reminded her of that she goes “I know. It could work.”
ha. Thanks, mom! She’s usually not like that. My dad, of course, was completely thrilled. It was exciting, though!! I can tell SO is really going to put some thought into it, based on his comments and questions from today. I know it’s gonna be a little while longer, but STILL. He even said the other night that we needed to stop talking about getting engaged and start focusing on what it means to actually be married! Baby steps, bees! Baby steps!!
PS I still come back to this one- 😀
