My husband and I met online over 7 years ago when it was still “weird”…Some of our friends still don’t know and it does make us a bit uncomfortable when people ask us how we met.  Mainly because of the response we’ve received from a few folks…you don’t know how “accepting” people are going to be of that idea.  But for the most part, lots of people are meeting online now and most people think it’s fasinating and kind of cool to meet online 🙂

@Bride_to_be_MelissaDavis:  Well I’m going to be honest. My fiance and I met online but we knew we’d get judged by family if we admitted that so we just say we met in classes (we go to same university). Some people know, but its just an easier thing to say for us

Why would you lie? Who cares what people think about how you met. Besides a LOT of people meet online these days

we met on Match and had the same initial hesitation to tell people.  Truth is, we do have some weird far-fetched friends in common (my ex’s semi friend went to high school with his cousin… seriously…) so there IS a possibility that we’ve met beforehand.  We’re sure we’ve been at a few of the same parties.  At first, we told some people we met “through friends” and left it at that.  I’m not proud of it in hindsight.  Most people know we’ve met on match, and while some have judged, I don’t care anymore!  I think I cared more when we were only casually seeing eachother, and not “official”/engaged

ETA: our hesitation stemmed from very traditional and semi-religious families, and friends who were already married “the old fashioned way”.  People can say harsh things when they’re not in your shoes!
