We had dogs and cats growing up and I never connected with them. I am normally NOT an animal person at all, no desire for pets.
My aunt and uncle are in Florida for a month and their cat is staying with us.
Darling Husband and I are in love! Seriously, he is the most chill, awesome cat ever. We put softpaws on him and he doesn’t seem bothered by them at all. Darling Husband lays on the floor with him and plays with him and loves on him. It seriously warms my heart so much and somehow the cat makes our place feel so much more homey?
I went out for dinner with the girls last night and they were like WHO ARE YOU?!
My aunt and uncle didn’t really want the cat to begin with, my vet cousin sort of forced him on them. They have a really annoying little jack russel that terrorizes the cat and I guess he just hides in the basement all the time. So, we are secretly hoping they might see how happy he is and let us keep him.
Darling Husband is going to be heartbroken when we have to give him back 🙁 And, I don’t know if I want to take a chance on another cat that won’t be as awesome and will trash our stuff.
How do we manipulate them into letting us keep him? (Obviously joking but kind of not… lol)
Darling Husband was practicing lighting with his fancy camera 🙂 Here he is:

Aw, he is handsome. Hey, no need to be ashamed about loving a cat! If they don’t let you keep him, maybe adopt an older cat- his/ her personality will already be apparent and usually there are lower fees or they are free from the SPCA because older cats are harder to adopt, so win win.
Also, to start planting the seeds with your aunt and uncle- can you send them update texts and emails? Say, every 4-6 days- Oh, he’s so happy here, we are all having a ball, etc? It will maybe give them the idea on their own. 🙂

Awww he’s so gorgeous!!! I love tabbies 🙂 I can’t get over how much he looks like my old cat Smee! I would definitely send them emails about how happy he is and how much he loves ___ (belly rubs, sitting in the sun at the window, snuggling with you guys, whatever). Have they mentioned wanting to rehome him at all or that they feel bad that he’s terrorized by the dog? Could you plant the idea with your mom/dad (whoever the sibling is with your aunt/uncle) or ask about it?

Definitely start planting a seed about how much you love him and how awesome he is and if they ever need a place for him make sure to call you first! Oh project keep the cat is definitely do able!
And if they feel that they can’t part I second the looking into a SPCA cat. You will be able to go in and see their personality and find the right one for you. They usually have a good feel for how the cat is.

Thanks ladies! He is just so darn cute.
We have started texting my cousin regularly, joking about how we are going to “steal” him with cute photos and such.
I think we will tell Aunt and Uncle that if they ever need a place for him to stay either temporarily or permanently, we would be happy to oblige.

I know!!!! I used to detest cats! I really just didn’t see the appeal at all. And I even kind of think I still don’t, but I love our cat. He’s fat and gray and just wants love 24/7. He was such a pain when we first brought him home, I was like “Why do people think cats are so great?” But then after a lot of time and patience, he grew into a 2nd child. My friends tease me too, because I swore I would NEVER get a cat!

He looks so handsome! I love adult cats. We have one older boy and a kitty girl, and seeing Oscar so mellow and relaxed makes me long for the day that Evie calms down!
I’m glad you’re planting the seed – and I hope you get to keep him, or at least get to be his kittygodparents!

He looks so handsome, just missing a smoking jacket and a pipe.

if your aunt & uncle really didnt want the cat, maybe you can ask to keep him? tell them secretly/jokingly that your Darling Husband will really miss him *hint hint*

He is too cute!! I always had dogs growing up and then an ex boyfriend got a cat and I’ve been in love ever since. We ended up falling in love with a Maine Coon. If you are looking for a chill cat that wants a lot of love Maine Coons are it. He is a huge cuddle bug and always wants attention, but he is pretty chill around the house!

Okay is it just me or are his nails painted blue? Or is that “softpaws”? (not sure what they are)

Aww he is so cute!!! Having a cat completely changes your view on cats. I used to HATE cats and so did Darling Husband. Then one day we found kittens in the parking lot behind his apartment. We found one of them sitting on his screened in porch one day after class. We’ve been in love ever since. We even found a 2nd cat 1.5 years later (wandering around our apt complex!) and took him in two. Now I can’t imagine my life without them. They have so much personality and are such lovers!! I hope you can somehow keep him

@khf777: Softpaws are like fake nails for cats — they come in all kinds of colours and help save furniture!
What a sweet kitty!
