Darling Husband and I really need a new mattress and hope to be able to get out this weekend to start looking. We have a few places in town that custom make them, or can always go to the furniture/mattress stores and see what they have.
What brand of mattress do you have, and what do you love about it?

I think we have a Serta and its wonderfulll. What I love about it is the pillow top and then we’ve added an extra foam layer to make it super comfy. And because of that, on top of the frame (one of those cheapo metal ones), its so high up that I have to hop to get onto the bed and I’m 5’6″!
If you can, buy mix and match. I saved a few hundred dollars by having a boxspring and mattress that were the same brand, but different fabrics and since I have a dust ruffle, you don’t see either! 🙂

Make sure you look up the laws of your state concerning mattresses. Sounds strange, but it’s important. I saw a dateline (or some show like it) a few years ago and it showed companies that sell “refurbished” mattresses and some states they don’t have to tell you or mark the mattresses. Seriously the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.
Don’t look at a Berkshire mattress. Horrible longevity.

geekgirl84: Writing Serta down as something to look at. I don’t know if we’d go the pillowtop route, but I loved when my old bed (pre-DH) had this awesome featherbed that I got one year for Christmas. It made my SUPER OLD year old mattress feel like new again. So great!
tksjewelry: Berkshire… noted! And that is good thought about checking laws. Darling Husband is not into the used/refurbished stuff, so we’d easily go new, but good to know nonetheless.

Two words for the best night’s sleep of your life every night: Memory Foam.
If you get a good one it seriously ruins you for every other type of mattress and you’re always longing to go home to your “perfect bed.” (At least, this has been my experience!)

Tempurpedic. Best thing ever. We just upgraded our queen to a king. It’s so comfortable. I hate if I have to stay at a hotel or someone’s house.
The queen is now in our spare room and everyone that stays always asks what kind of mattress is it because they slept so well.

Kacie209: My Darling Husband and I just bought our mattress set last month.. I believe its a Serta and we love our mattress! I think they gave us a warranty of 25 years. We got ours at Mattress Firm.

If you get a memory foam, do not go off brand. Mine is memory foam, but not tempurpedic, and after 5 years it’s starting to lose it’s rebound and giving my fiance and I major backaches. When it was new though, it was like sleeping on a cloud!

Darling Husband and I need a new one and are going to try Kasper. They send it to your home, you sleep on it for 60 days and keep if you like, or return if you don’t. Sounds like a win-win so we’ve got nothing to lose!

Tempurpedic. Worth the money. I’ve been getting the best night’s sleep of my life every night since I got it. I was hesitant to drop that much money on a mattress but it is absolutely worth it. If you do get one, just know that you will have to break it in so the first month or so it will be a little hard but after that should be perfect.

Sleep Like the Dead has some good comparison charts about all the different kinds of mattresses.
We just bought a new mattress. But since we’re on a budget we went with an IKEA Sultan spring mattress. It’s incredibly comfortable!

AwkwardCoconut: I have heard goof things with those – will definitely need to add to our look list.
trevino24: I know we have some Serta stores around here, so we’ll have to check that one out too.
stephncollins: We do love our memory foam pillows that we got as wedding gifts. Darling Husband has back pain a lot, so I think something like that would be good for him.
Nay1976: I’ve never heard of that one, but sounds like a good deal when they let you try it out!
mrskirk: That was our concern with cost, but know if we spend the money – it will be worth it. I sleep pretty well, but it’s Darling Husband that has problems – so I want to make sure it’s something that is easy for his back (as mentioned in another reply), and maybe gets him a full night of sleep.
mildlybookish: Thanks for the link! I’ll have to check it out, and let Darling Husband know about it. I wish we had an IKEA close by (it’s 3 hours away)!
So many options out there!

I believe ours is Serta as well, by Vera Wang lol. Is there anything she doesn’t have her name on?
Ours is a king size and the greatest thing ever. I’m glad Darling Husband talked me out of the pillow top because those seem to get a lot of complaints, and you can always add one to your mattress separately and remove it if it gets squished.
