Fiance has been working with granite (fabrication/installation of stone countertops, shower stalls etc) for 10+ years. He is really good at what he does and really wants to work for himself. I being a Stay-At-Home Mom, am starting to think about what I will do once the youngest is in school.
We want to start this together, but where do we begin? I know it varies from state to state, but anyone experienced with getting any kind of business going? I guess I’m just looking for a little guidance/inspiration! Thanks 🙂

Congrat! Ive never worked with granite, or any type of constructiony business, but my husband and I own a bakey/coffee shop and I love it. I was a little overwhelmed in the beginning also, but I found some great people that had some great tips and advice. I don’t know where you live, our state has something called the Alaska ROPE program which is classes for people running small businesses. Almost every state that I am aware of has some sort of SBDC, small business development center you can find them at sba.gov they they have people you can talk to at almost every stage of business planning and depending on your state some even have accountants and lawyers you can talk to for free when you get that far.
I started by reading about a million books, 4/5 of them were useless, there is a book called the art of non conformity and the same author writes the 100$ start up. They are great, might not apply to your specific type of business, but they are great books to get you thinking about what you will need.
Business plans seem really stupid while you are writing them, and they are always changing while you are in business, so don’t stress about having the perfect one before you start, just get the basics, do your research and make sure you aren’t looseing money. once your plan has some dirrection just start doing it.
Best of luck!
