- Wedding: June 2013
I’ve been reading all of your proposals and thought it’s about time I share my story too!
At the time of the proposal my Fiance and I had been together for about a year and 5 months. We had talked about the future and our plans to get married but that’s as far as it went. He caught me looking at rings online a few times but we had yet to go ring shopping.
So we took a vacation to the Mayan riviera in June of this year. With the company we booked with you were given vouchers for free cartouche pendants if you booked an excursion through them. Every vacation we take I like bring home some kind of jewelry to remember the trip(think silver earrings etc). We had to go to the jewelry factory to get our pendants and i Thought this would be a great place to look for earrings. We get there and the place is huge! They explain the lay out, silver in these cases, gems over there etc. I head for the silver case, my Fiance is on the other side of the room browsing. He calls me over and asks what I think of the case he is looking in…it’s diamond rings! To me this particular case looked more like promise rings. Tiny diamond solitares and very thin bands(not a bad thing just not my dream ring). So I say they’re lovely( I’m confused at this point, not ure if he’s thinking e-ring or just thought a ring might be nicer then earrings). He asks if there is one that stands out and I reply jokingly with that depends on what kind of ring we’re talking about. He smiles and says, you know what kind of ring I mean!(happy dance!!!). I point out a couple I liked from the case but mention I preferred styles with side diamonds. We go to another room and I find one I really like, yay Mexico we were even able to talk the price down!
Fiance admits at this point that he wasn’t planning to propose on our trip but that it just felt right.=) He hadn’t done much research on diamonds and neither of us knew much about this company. The jeweler agreed to hold the ring for us at the negotiated price while we did some research that night. That evening we went into playa del Carmen for dinner and stopped in a few jewelers in town. We ended up at diamonds international and after trying on pretty well every ring in the store I found my perfect ring! More perfect then the other store. We bought it that night, had the jeweler size it and we picked it up the next evening. Fiance hadn’t officially proposed at this point and I made sure he knew he still had to ask lol. I had to wait until our last night in Mexico but it was worth it!
We had a lovely dinner at the resort, then took a walk along the beach in the rain. We ended up at the end of the pier, under a bright moon, in the rain with waves splashing around us. He asked me to be his wife <3 PERFECT!
Our Mexico engagement was a surprise to us both!
