So we found out today that we were most likely scammed by a company that we put a deposit down for rental of linen services. We put the deposit down in August and the woman we signed the contract with cashed out our check. We contacted her yesterday to find out some information about possibly renting some other items. The website was gone, the email shut off. ANY website that promoted their services, the knot, wedding wire, you name it no longer had their contact info and if it did, it had the phone numbers of people who didn’t even know what the company was or the phone number was no longer in service. She gave us the number of the “owner” who’s phone isn’t even on and her voicemail comes up right away with the voice of the lady i had spoken to that said she no longer works there???
We called her she said she NO LONGER works for the company. But when we met with her she stated that she was co-owner? WTF?? AND cashed out our check!!!
Be very aware of who you give your money and sign contracts with even if they do have GREAT reviews and good prices.

Call your state’s attorney general’s office now. You might want to talk to the police and also talk to the Better Business Bureau.

Oh man, that SUCKS!!!!! I’m so sorry, I hope it wasn’t a large amount of money! What jerks (I would use a stronger word but I should probably keep this post clean) to just run off with your cash! Again, I’m sorry and thanks for warning the rest of us, hopefully at least save some other brides your hassle, frustration and money loss… HUGS!

HA i did all of the above, contacted BBB the company didn’t exist, they asked me to call Secretary of State and said they didn’t exist gave me to the Attorney General and they had me fill out a form to mail. I contacted hte police but all they could do was file a report because the “company” isn’t in my county.
UGH so frustrating! We contacted local paper for WATCH DOG. Which looks into the problem. We contacted our local news who do investigations. You name it!! We are pissed!

What’s the name of the company? I did linen rentals online from another state and had no problems, but it would be good to know to file away.

did you contact the knot about them since they were there?

That’s so horrible. I hope you can find a way to get this resolved and get the word out to everyone so you can find out if you aren’t the only one.

I am so sorry this has happened to you…I hope that the deposit wasn’t too high and that your loss wasn’t too great. There is a positive that you found out now rather than a few weeks prior to your wedding. I hope there is some way you can reslove this and get your money back!

file a report because the “company” isn’t in my county.
Can you file a report in the county of the company? That’s technically where the crime was committed

Contact your bank and explain the situation. You should be able to file a fraud claim and they will do their own invesitgation (such as contacting the owner of the account it was deposited to).
I once had something like this happen and reported it to my bank. The bank was able to track the person down and actually speak to them. My money was returned to my account in less than a week.
