I am planning my wedding and the style of the venue is NOT something I am willing to change. Like you, I want an intimate wedding that is in a old mansion or other venue with personality. Ballroom weddings are nice but I find that they are not the feel I am going for. This is non-negotiable

I tried thinking about what I would need in a ballroom to be happy with my wedding day and in the end it was too much!  Tents, lounge areas, vintage furniture, chairs, speciality lighting and florals etc. The cost would be huge and even though I would have the room to invite as many people I wanted the whole event would be rather generic and impersonal.

Also, I am limiting my guest list to immediate family and stopping at first cousins and their parents. I am inviting my grand parents siblings but not their children and grands.  I am ok with limiting my guest list becasue I really want to be a good host and interact with everyone there.

Your wedding is one day and you will be spending a lot of money, make sure you are happy.

Bee, this is not your question, but please do not forget that most likely your winnings count as taxable income, meaning that you will need to pay taxes on $7k of additional earnings.

DrCrazyCat:  Even with the limited guest list I have over 150 people to invite and hope only 80-125 attend. (Big family)  Luckily my dream mansion can accomodate 185 for an indoor seated reception.  And 125 would be perfect and not cramped.  Even my second runner up mansion venue can accomodate 150 inside and 300+ for an outdoor reception.

I still have a year before my wedding and I feel lucky to have found these places.  I cant wait to start sharing more details.  I am feeling tremendous pressure to book the right venue and neither of them are Free.  I cant imagine what you are going through.

DrCrazyCat:  Hi Drcrazycat, I would have the “Never to be repeated” –“once in a lifetime” wedding of your dreams. So it’s a little more money. It will be a wedding of no regrets if you plan it the way you want. A larger Hall Wedding usually sounds hollow with an echo effect  for Djs and Bands unless you really fill it up with people …which will of course cost extra.
