    Sadly the dresses I haved had to wear were not my style and not particularly flattering either. I would rewear a dress if the opportunity were to present itself and the dress was nice.

    I have and the dress is long. To me what determines whether I’ll wear it again is not hte lenght but the overall style and how ‘bridesmaid-y’ it looks. I have another long bridesmaid dress I never wore bc it was was totally obvious it was a bridesmaid dress. I always thought it was nice of hte bride to allow the bridesmaids to either decide, or be a part of the decision process if they’re paying that much for a dress..

    I personally have been in quite a few weddings with long and short dresses and I have never worn them again, but thats the dresses I have had to wear in the past. Thats not saying that there isn’t a bridesmaid dress out there that couldn’t be worn again.

    Do you maybe have a pic we could look at?

    I was a bridesmaid 4 times and I only ever wore the dress again once, when it was a long dress and I had it altered to short (I wore it to a sorority semi-formal one time and then gave it away). I was, however, able to give away the others to people who could get some use out of them. The one I altered and wore again was the only one that was remotely my style.

    I’ve never worn one again.

    I liked the J. Crew ones I bought my bridesmaids so much that I bought two for myself (different styles).  I’ve worn the a couple times.  🙂

    I’ve never re-worn a bridesmaids dress, but I’ve also only had to wear horrific dresses that didn’t fit my body type at all.  I asked my girls to wear long dresses, and they picked a style at DB that they can chop off after the wedding to make a cute cocktail dress (one of the girls actually said that, not me, and I think at least three of them plan to do it).  I didn’t feel bad about “making” them wear a dress because they picked it out, even if I did tell them I’d like them in long ones.

    The only Bridesmaid or Best Man dress I have is a long, electric-blue, satin, badly ruched, very rustle-y gown. I can’t think of anywhere that I could wear it, other than a prom.

    I’d definitely re-wear a short chiffon dress in a reasonable color.

    I have been a bridesmaid in five weddings.  All but one had long dresses.  I wore ONE of the long dresses again to a formal event. The dress was black and I was allowed to pick it on my own which was nice.

    Do you have any pictures of the dresses you’re considering?  I could speculate all day long, but it would help to see what you’re thinking about 🙂

    @whitewater8:  You look lovely!

    It’s hard to see the details on the long Bridesmaid or Best Man dress but either of those could fall into the maybe, maybe not category depending on your girls’ tastes. For me neither would be because I just don’t really wear strapless dresses in my regular life.

    All 5 bridesmaid dresses I’ve worn were long, all 5 looked like what they were – bridesmaid dresses – and I never entertained wearing any of them again. I don’t think it’s something any bridesmaid expects. If a dress is actually re-wearable, that’s just a nice bonus.
