I’ve noticed some arabic girls wearing their rings on their right hands and I’ve just been assuming that they’re married and it’s a culture difference

I would assume she is a widow.

In some European countries, the wedding set is worn on the right hand. When I moved to Canada, I thought everybody was divorced, since they had rings on their left hands.

@MrsDeco:  As far as I know, wedding rings (especially the type that I have–a Claddagh ring) are meant to be worn on the left hand to indicate your status as a married person.  Otherwise, other people may still assume that you are single and still available for dating.  Having said that, however, I’ve seen many a lady who was not married wearing rings on their left ring fingers, but this is usually done only if a woman wants to try to deter men from hitting on her! MrsFuzzyFace had it right when she said that a widow or a widower may switch their wedding ring to their right hand (or at least that’s what they do here in Newfoundland anyway).  However, I also know a lot of married people who just don’t wear their engagement ring or wedding band!  It really is up to the couple on how to wear their rings or if they want to wear them at all.  Personally, I will not leave the house without wearing my wedding ring (on my left hand) and my husband also always wears his except when he is working because he can’t wear jewelry in the line of work that he does.

@MrsDeco:  The other thing is, are your friend’s rings from her grandmother actually a wedding set, or is she only wearing two pretty rings on the same finger?  If neither of them LOOKS like an engagement ring or wedding band, other people probably wouldn’t think anything of it.  I wore rings on my right hand for at least fifteen years before I got engaged and nobody ever thought I was engaged or married (or at least nobody ever ASKED me if I was).  However, to avoid confusion, she could also wear the rings separately on different fingers and avoid wearing any ring on her ring finger (on the left OR right hand) until she is engaged.  I wear my family ring on my right middle finger every single day and have done so ever since my grandfather passed away as the ring was a gift from him.

I think that people would just notice two stacked rings that look like a wedding set and assume she’s married maybe without noticing what hand they are on.. so i vote yes ๐Ÿ™‚
