We’re heading to Mexico next month and I’ll be wearing my rings. I only take them off and put them in the safe in the room when swimming in the pool/ocean.

@canarydiamond:  There is ALWAYS  a master key that overrides the access code that you have selected. I know this bc when DH has claims whrre the safe has been broken into there is a report of which access codes have been used to unlock the in room safe.

I have a 45k ring, and Ive never been worried about wearing it whenever and where ever I went on vacations.

If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t wear it. No point being worried about it the whole time.

I live in Mexico.  And I do wear my ring.  But, I do take it off and stick it in my purse when on public transportation.  But, I am weird.  I would bring it and wear it to the ceremony for the pictures or whatever then take it off and pack it if your worried.  And I do think jewelry insurance would be something you should think about.

Funny, that’s exactly why my mom said my aunt would NEVER wear her ring there. She also said something a long the lines of “you could get killed for a thin gold chain”. I’ve only visited a couple times, whereas they’d lived there 20 years and visited every year, so in conclusion. Yeah I wouldn’t lol.

@Laurenskii:  I think just make a decision- wear it or dont. If you are that worried about losing it then just leave it at home and say to Fi that its better if its off for a week than it being in the ocean/mexican thugs shack forever. Too bad if he doesnt like it off you- its your ring and you are being sensible by ensuring you have it forever. Dont let the on/off ring concept ruin your happy holiday thoughts. But if you start getting anal about it now, you might always be taking it off ‘just in case’

“er for people saying its a terrible idea, what do you guys imagine people in mexico do?!”

RIGHT?! People have this bizarre perception that Mexico is some big ol’ ghetto except for within the confines of a cute little resort. The media sure is a powerful force.

My mom lives in Mexico and has for a decade. She is SUPER flashy with $20k of diamonds on her, wads of hundred dollar bills falling out of her wallet, and almost always drunk and/or high, boobs hanging out, the works. In other word she’s a hot fuckin’ mess! If anyone were to get their fingers macheted off (lol!), it would have been her, a million times over.

I’ve spent lots of time there, have driven around everywhere, stayed in remote towns and I’ve never felt unsafe. I’ve even camped in a tent in Mexico, and I have zero interest in resorts unless I’m visiting family members who like to stay in them. I wouldn’t worry about it beyond the usual: sand, water, losing it, yada yada. If you’re going to be worried about those things, I’d definitely get a stand-in because it’s no fun fretting over something when you’re supposed to be relaxing on vacation.

I too am going to Mexico next summer and didn’t even think about this.

I don’t really get how wearing a stand-in cheaper ring will solve the problem if the issue is safety? I understand if you lose it, it’s not a big deal but if it looks like a nice wedding ring, a passerby may not realize and take it anyway so again…don’t really get that.

I will likely wear mine. I’d hate to just be newly married and not be able to wear my bridal set. I will keep it in the safe when not in wear and wear it any other time and stay on safe 5-star resort only 🙂

@Laurenskii:  Seriously? Your post and the ones like it are kind of insulting to the people of Mexico.

I am going to the States next year should I leave my rings at home because of all the crime? I am not sure how I survived my last few trips there and to Mexico since wearing a ring is sooooo dangerous.

Fact- a pick pocket/theif is going to notice your bulging wallet/wads of cash/clothing/expensive electronic before they will notice by comparison a tiny ring on your finger. They will be observing you from far away before they go in for the kill.

I guess I would ask if you are so scared of being robbed why bother visiting the country?

@GlamMeup:  we stayed at the grand Riviera Princess. It was a beautiful resort, service was great but food was a bit hit and miss. Where did you guys stay?
