So, I have my beautiful champagne dress. I had to track it all over the Internet before I found a used one in my size on Tradesy. I love the dress and feel absolutely perfect in it. My dilemma is that I recently discovered that one of our guests wore the dress at her wedding a few years ago. I’ve known her for years but we’re more friendly acquaintances. FH is more of her friend. I was invited to her wedding but I wasn’t able to attend because of work. She and I recently became Facebook friends and when I looked at her photos there was the dress. It’s not just similar, it’s the same dress. I still plan on wearing the dress, my wedding is 3 weeks away and I also just love it too much not to. We have very little guest crossover so I’m thinking that most likely only she and her husband and possibly fiance’s ex will even know it’s the same dress. Mine has been altered to change the neck to a sweetheart neckline but that doesn’t disguise the fact that it’s the same. Am I committing a major faux pas?

No. There is no expectation that you will research the dress worn by all your married female guests.

Absolutely not! It’s your wedding day and you picked your dress- enjoy it! It’s definitely not a faux pas- brides don’t own a dress for life. I wouldn’t care if someone wore the same dress as me even the very next day.

Good heavens, no faux pas! She doesn’t have exclusiive rights on the dress She’ll most likely admire your excellent taste

No no you are absolutely fine . Even if it were recognised as the same dress- which I bet it isn’t – you have made no faux pas at all. Don’t be tempted to mention it or sound as if you are apologising in any way either , will you !

one of my college friends wore my exact dress at her wedding 2 months before mine! And there was a lot of guest crossover. I was planning very some minor modifications anyway – I took the lace straps off (they were optional) and I changed a bow on the front to a diamanté thing (similar to a sash) and nobody noticed they were the same dress. My colours and accessories were also different. And I felt amazing in my dress! So most likely nobody will notice – enjoy your day and your dress!!

Because I love my dress so much I would love to see another bride in it. Enjoy your day and wear whatever you want!

I bet the only person who notices is her. I remember dresses, but I would never be able to pick out the exact dress a bride wore… Especially 3 years later.
