Not a good idea -- it's cheesy and/or detracts from white on the wedding day. : (1 votes)

Wear white if that’s what you like! We didn’t have an engagement party as they aren’t that common over here (where I’m from we joke that an engagement party means no wedding as that’s what always seems to happen for some reason!) but if we’d had one I would have worn white because it’s quite bridal and you’re there to celebrate that you’re a bride to be! I’ve never heard of any rules on this so go with what you want.

I’ve never heard of this rule. Wear whatever the hell you like.

Why would any dress you wear 2 years before your wedding deter from your wedding dress?? Unless you plan on wearing a wedding dress to your engagement party (I realize you don’t), you can wear whatever appropriate dress you want.

WHOA!!!!! Shut the front door (referring to your FSIL).

That’s a terrible thing for you Future Sister-In-Law to say. It’s not cheesy or desperate at all. If anything I hear once you are “a bride to be”, take every opportunity to wear white. Wear whatever your heart desires!!! I think that’s a nice casual dress to wear for your engagement party. Mine is two years away too hun and I plan to wear something white also to our e-party this summer. I say go for it! :)~

I found a gorgeous dress on Etsy that I am hopeuflly going to order and then wear for my engagement party. I have some other things that I will wear for the more casual events, but I think I will stick with the white theme. Doesn’t seem strange or distracting or detracting to me at all.

It’s just a color. I wear white sundresses all the time. Now if you start wearing a veil with it, you might be getting a tad carried away.
