This probably applies more to UK bees as we have such dodgy summers…but is anyone else worried about the weather in August?
My birthday is in August and when I waa young I always remember it being sunny and hot on my birthday. Whereas these days summer tends to be written off with rain (including my birthday…) in fact we usually get a summer in spring time! (except last year when we had a hot July).
On that note I’m not entirely sure why I booked my wedding in August but it just felt right and I’ve always imagined getting married in that month. My wedding isn’t outdoors so I don’t ‘need’ perfect weather but it would be lovely if it was dry as the reception venue has some lovely outdoor areas and scenery.
I suppose the weather is so unpredictable here in the UK that there is no point choosing your date based on it. I’m so envious of bees who live in places with predictable sunny weather!!

Unfortunately, weather fluxuations happen everywhere, and it’s just something you deal with. You have nearly two years before your wedding — it is really way, way, way too soon to start stressing yourself over something like this that you can’t even control!
FWIW, on my wedding day, it was in the low 40s and raining. The year before, it was in the upper 90s and sunny. You just deal.

@jpbee: I am getting married in August too, and my birthday is also in August! We’re month twins x 2. In Ontario it usually is pretty hot and humid in August, so my only worry is my hair going flat. But I don’t anticipate much time outside besides the photos (indoor wedding, I would go insane worry about the weather if I did outdoor).

We’ve had some good Augusts recently but as you say, nothing is reliable over here. However, you will get hours of daylight and the likelihood is of it being warm.
I got married at the end of May. Traditionally a good month and indeed, we hadn’t had any rain at all for a couple of weeks. In fact, over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend we had been baking hot performing at an outdoor event. So what happened on our wedding day? The temperature dropped 10 degrees and it rained! Not that it spoilt our day one jot I hasten to add.
While it’d be great to live somewhere with more predictable weather, this doesn’t necessarily help. You only have to read the posts from Bees who live in parts of the US where the temperatures are so hot in the summer months that outdoor weddings are a real challenge. My son and daughter in law were considering getting married in Utah last September. Temperatures could have been in the 90s!

- Wedding: August 2015 - Alexander Homestead
@jpbee: SO and I, too, have has our weather worries since we set an August date. August here in the States (and I guess pretty much for all of the northwestern hemisphere) is the start of hurricane season and while we were really going for a destination wedding or a bayside/riverside ceremony, we have since changed our mind and are looking to indoor venues just to be safe. Indoors not only to avoid potential rain but also to treat our guests to air conditioner. I live in the south and our summers can be SWELTERING!
Been in the process now of looking for indoor venues and hopefully venues where ceremony and reception can be in the same building.

@SummerOfLove: Hello wedding and birthday month twin : ) Gosh see I always just think it would be wonderful to have a wedding somewhere hot but never think of possible problems with that like humidity. My hair goes flat stupidly fast as its very long and fine, so I;m probably going to have it backcombed and all up – with lots of hairspray!
@Glasgowbound: That is awesome, really glad you got good weather. I hope it is the same on my wedding day!
@Steampunkbride: Thats good to hear that the weather didn’t spoil your big day. I’ve been to weddings in glorious sunshine and pouring rain and to be fair they have all been amazing and the rainy ones were just as good!
@ComputerLove06: I don’t blame you for opting for an indoor venue to be safe. I hope you find something nice that can provide the ceremony and reception.

i got married in the UK in August this year! The 30th! The weekend before had been cool an then a few days before some torrential rain (remnants of Hurricane Bertha!) The day before was cool windy and showery but on the day it started grey and murky then the sun came out all morning and stayed dry bright and warm for the afternoon (it hazed over a bit and went a bit cloudier) but the photographer said this will ideal for pics as was still bright! It stayed warm enough for pics and drinks and canapes outside (we had a 30 man male voice choir too so this was a bonus they could get outside!)
i worried so much in the run up! and was a little on edge in the morning when it was drizzly but we were pretty lucky!you will be fine and it will be amazing whatever happens! keep us posted! enjoy the build up and planning as much as poss! 🙂 xxx
