@Regina Phalange:  10X?  Whoah.

Anyway, +1 on the engaged thing.  When we spoke to the realtor, he referred to me as his Fiance.

@MexiPino:  “So now I’m not good enough to live in your special magical apartment building”

Snort laugh!  You’re hilarious.  But yeah, that’s super stupid.  I can’t believe they wont just let him be on the lease sine he would qualify on his own!

This has happened with my fiance and I as well. We live and 1 1/2 hours away from each other which is why we are so eager to find a place together.  He is going to move where I am because he can easily transfer and I live about 30 minutes away from my job.  So we are both eager to move to a brand new apartment and a brand new area for the both of us

We have been looking at several apartments and townhouses.  One in particular said that we HAVE to be married in order to claim “joint” income.  We looked at this place prior to us getting engaged.  Now that we are engaged, I have noticed many apartment managers be more welcoming to us as a couple!  I believe the apartment managers are well within their rights, I mean when your married what you both make is JOINT income versus just being boyfriend/girlfriend your not LEGALLY tied to one another.  Even by being engaged, you may still run into those questions.

I would call the authorities about this issue. Discrimination is illegal, especially when it comes to housing.
