It is actually spelled Chuppah and yes they are at Jewish ceremonies because of their “religious” ( although it is more deeply rooted tradition that religion) but other faiths can and do have them as well. We are trying to find one that we like for an indoor ceremony… But the difference between Chuppah and arches is that Chuppas have to be made up of a cloth held up by four poles and open on all sides. It symbolized the home the couple is making together with all four sides remaining open just as their home will remain open for family, friends, and those in need. Arches are just that… arches.
