My engagement ring is a classic 14k white gold 6 prongs solitaire (from James Allen) and my wedding band is a half eternity shared prong band in 14k white gold. The band was made to fit the ering by a local jeweler. I’ve been wearing them together only for 1 year and a half.
I noticed this morning that the 2 side prongs (the one that touch the wedding band, depending on which side I’ve put the ring that day) are damaged. They look slightly incurved, like if they were shaved by the diamonds from the band. The band itself is like new, no sign of damage on it. I suppose the friction (they don’t sit flush, there is a small gap between them) did this to the ering.
I called my jeweler and will be going there soon but in the meantime I want to start thinking about my options and was wondering if any of you guys know what can be done. Change the metal in both rings? Modify, elevate the basket of the ering, solder them together, buy a spacer? I would’nt mind changing the ering setting all together (keeping the diamond) so it fits the band better but it’s not the most affordable option.
