    @LTrain:  I think you should ask them to make an exception to their policy because they handled it poorly.  Sorry you had that happen.  Pics?

    Personally, I think the jeweler is wrong for not doing anything for you…even if it was a special order and they can’t maybe refund all the money they should help you out in some way…either by agreeing to take that ring back and maybe just charging half the price of the other ring…etc. I think it’s wrong for them to just leave you high and dry.  Have you tried talking to a manager or anyone higher up? If not, I would for sure do that. Hope you get something worked out!

    @LTrain:  the jeweler is the “expert”. He/she should have gone over all the dimensions of the ring. They should not have assumed you wanted a high dome ring without clarifying that aspect of the ring with you.

    They should rectify the situation by getting you the ring you want.
