maryherbie:  Sorry, I wouldn’t want my venue smelling like shit, literally, on my wedding day.  I am sure you will find something better!

maryherbie:  There are no other venues like it? What makes this one so special.

You can do it, but even I would hesitate and I’m used to country smells when they aren’t at their finest.

As other poster said eating will be difficult. Do you eat in a barn? Or could you with the nice smell of pig manure in the air?

maryherbie:  Does the barn have AC? The barn I am getting married in does not and the doors are open so if I was near the pig farm there is a good chance I could get a smell of something.

As a kid we were in the school and we could still smell the dairy farm.

You also understand that with livestock comes different kinds of bugs. Horseflies, blackflies etc. Right now the blackflies are horrid at the farm, however 10 miles away at my friends’ house in the village no issues.

I just want you to know everything.

Are you stuck on your date? Why not look at other dates this other barn has available?

Complete dealbreaker!

Do you want to take the chance that what most guests remember about your wedding is the SMELL? Not something I’d want to pay a lot of money for and have to HOPE for the best.

As others have said… you’ll find the pefect venue… keep looking!

Of all the days to smell – your wedding will be the day the wind blows it all in your direction. I would not chance it.

This was a dealbreaker for me. We toured a very affordable unique venue less than 5 minutes from our house and it would’ve been super convenient and basically perfect if not for the smell ๐Ÿ™ There’s a stable nearby and even though it is faint, I would’ve hated for my guests to just be thinking “state fair” the whole time. We ended up finding something completely different in a whole new area and it was perfect! Keep searching bee ๐Ÿ™‚

maryherbie:  I agree with the PP who said it would be great if you wanted to have an authentic rustic/country wedding. . .but I wouldn’t book it. Go for a longer engagement if your heart is set on a barn in your specific area, and all the others are booked out.

I would totally go for it. but i grew up in the country and think nothing of farm smells. plus you love it and you cant smell it from the inside. talk to the venue people and get their take on the smell issue.

Is there any way you can contact previous brides who have gotten married there and ask them if there was a problem with the smell during their weddings? Maybe a Facebook group or something you could post on?
