Usually it works best to figure out what you can afford and go from there; it’s usually not worth it to go into debt for a wedding. Also, you can start researching vendors in your area to figure out what price range is normal for flowers, venue, photos, DJ, etc

It also depends on what part of the country you’re in, the amount of guests, what you qualify to be ‘simple’ and ‘elegant’…I’m getting married in Wisconsin in June with 88 guests and a cash bar and our budget is still $15k. Which I consider to be a lot. But his family is contributing (mine is not) so that helps out a lot.

Also, TheKnot.com has a wedding budget resource in the “tools” section which helped us SO much to realize what we needed to set aside and budget.

@msfahrenheit:  I agree. What you’re describing is really vague & subjective. It could be the difference between $5,000 & 45,000 depending on what you think “simple” is. What do you WANT to spend on a wedding?

Our budget is $10,000. We have gone over a little bit but I am very please with the way everything has come out! It is very elegant yet beautifully simple! I absolutely can’t wait to see it all put together!
