I live in the SF/Bay Area and our wedding budget (including rings but excluding honeymoon) was $45-$50K. We had 120 guests for a buffet dinner. By far, the most expensive item was the catering which cost us over $25K.

Our wedding is in SoCal but we’re paying for everything ourselves, so we set a budget for $10K, not including honeymoon in Greece, which might cost about $6000 on top of that. We’re inviting about 150 guests, but don’t know how many will show up. We’re doing alright so far, because we have a lot of friends who are helping with different parts of the wedding, like hair, makeup, videography, etc. I think it will depend on what food we’ll be serving. That’s either going to make or break the bank. We’ll see…

I origionally tried to do our wedding for 11,000. But we are at 17,000 right now.

 We are having 150 people, with dinner, beer and wine, dessert. And I am only counting the hotel that we will stay at the two nights following not the honeymoon.

We’re in MN, our budget was originally about $7K out of our own pocket – parents are contributing about 11K-$13K.

We’ve since then uppsed out budget to about$10K out of our own pocket.

We are having ours in NYC, 100ish people and it is going to run us $45k. We originally planned on $40k, but I ended up buying a more expensive dress then we budgeted for on top of other extras 🙂  We arent really cutting corners anywhere though.  However, quotes we got for other places on a saturday night were MUCH larger.

Similar to jcabc, our wedding is in NYC on a Saturday night and for 125 people, our budget is roughly $50k. We are splurging in some areas (photography and letterpress) but I wouldn’t say we are being extravagent by NYC standards.

 I would like weddingbee to bring back the real budgets feature though. It was interesting to read how some brides kept costs down and yet still had a fantastic wedding!

We had originally planned on $20K.  Until we started looking.  Then we doubled our budget.  The only thing we really splurged on was our venue.  Clearly budgets definitely vary by location…..cities like NY and Boston are very expensive.  So after we upped our budget, we still went about 20% over, and that was with going average with literally everything else!  I am extremely jealous of those who have managed under $10K!

I feel slightly better to see some numbers closer to my range.  I also think a BIG factor pushing us over is the approved vendor list our hotel gave us.  All their approved vendors are sooo pricey!  But I wanted that place and it makes it easier for us to pick.

we’re having about 125 guests in l.a for about $40K-$45K. we decided that food and photography was the most important to us, so we are splurging on those items. photographer cost $8K and the dinner is $18K, which comes to about $144 per head.

i don’t feel so bad anymore after seeing others going over budget.  😛  we had originally planned for $20k in socal, but it’s looking near 50k for 150 people now without a honeymoon.  like yellowhummingbird, the photographer and venue (which includes food) were most important to us and we splurged on those items.  they ended up costing 8k and 25k, respectively.  i had second thoughts about maybe forfeiting our deposit and moving the venue to a different one to save some money, but in the end i figured i would regret moving it, so we kept it.

i’m a nyc bride and my budget has fluctuated between $58k – $65k.  once it hit $65k, i scaled back some things (DIY invites instead of letterpress) but inevitably, other things make it go up again (photog).  It’s a tough balancing act but i agree with most of the comments – splurge on what is important to you and try your best to juggle the rest.

We have a budget of $12k and 45 guests.  Kind of high but we’re doing a 3 day wedding event and the 45 guests are family only, so kind of making it a family reunion for both sides and hoping to treat everyone to a memorable mini vacation weekend.  $12k does not include our rings or honeymoon.  I’m hoping to only go over budget by a couple thousand.

I’m a Bay Area bride and our budget is $20k. excluding the honeymoon.  We’re planning on having about 125 guests (maybe 150).  We’re splurging on photography and lighting, while saving on the day of coordinator and music/DJ.

we’re trying to stick to 60K for 350 guests in the oc (southern california) area, but it’s already on its way upwards. 🙁  so far, most things have been over budget. this is w/o the honeymoon either. i’m guessing it will be right around 70K or so by the time the wedding comes. we splurged in many areas but also got great deals in others. more than half of it is food/drinks. save save save!

I watched on Entertainment Tonight and the California news that the average wedding costs is somewhere form 25-40K.  20 thousand would be if you were to have it in your backyard or a brunch.  My fiance and I are hoping to have it at a restaurant so we are budgeting 35K.  Hopefully nothing more.  And like many others, we are paying it for ourselves so pretty much we’re living paycheck by paycheck.
