Hello Local Philly Area Bees, I’ve been seriously crunching numbers lately to stay on a tight budget, and I still have a few vendors that still need to be booked. Lately I’ve been most woried about a photographer. I have a tight budget for photography, and was trying to stay around $1000.00. Just when I thought this wouldn’t be possible, I came across Wedding Bug. They offer packages from $595.00 (oh and their Videography and DJs start from the same price point), and I get all of the rights to my photos. I read a few of their reviews on wedding wire and looked at some galleries from their photographers, and I feel like someone may be playing a cruel cruel joke on me. It just seems to good to be true. Any bees have experience with them?

No experience with them, but as a photographer myself, I cannot think that at their price point you are getting someone with the experience you need. That just isn’t enough money to keep a good photographer on their books – and I’m sure the “executives” take a cut of the money.
Our photographer offers a six hour documentary package for $1,350 – with real technical expertise, years of experience and great to work with. We had all our images in an online album nine days after our wedding – not retouched yet, but we loved seeing them so quickly. I’m in NJ – I can send the link if you are interested – it’s a bit over your budget but not hugely….

Yeah, I read a few more reviews, and as you suspected they probably aren’t as good as they seem. Apparently, you pay a deposit with the company, and they promise you a photographer, but you don’t know who until just 2-3 weeks before your wedding. You can’t pick your own photographer at all, and can’t see the specific photographer’s portfolio before hand. I’m not sure I’m up for playing russian roulette with my wedding photos. I hear that some of the photographers they use are good, but so many others are not!
I’m open to any info on good, budget friendly photography that any local bees may have. I really want to stay under $1000.00, but there may be some flexibility there. I don’t need any frills like an album or anything. I just want some pretty photos on a disc, that I have the rights to, and can print on my own.

I’d suggest looking at http://www.kgmexpressions.com
Click on prices to see a partial list of packages they offer. You can email Ray to see if he has a package in your price range, with the options you want. We found them very flexible and very quick to answer emails and the questions we had.
I also didn’t like the idea of not knowing who your photographer would be until late in the game – that would make me nervous.

I second KGM Expressions, as well as Michael’s Photography. Both have reasonable packages/prices, and have nice photographs.
