Here is my cake. I wanted something simple and sweet. I am having them brush it in shiny, diamond dust. I don’t know the name of that technique. I don’t have a price on this cake because it was part of my cater’s package.

Unfortunately I can’t help much either…my older sister is making mine as a wedding gift…though I would suggest doing a smaller cake and making sheet cakes for the majority of the guests…that is what my sister is doing for me.

We had a strict budget of $300 so we had to get a little creative. We’re have a 3 tier cake that will feed 70, and then they’re doing a sheet cake that will be kept in the back and will be cut to give us 50 extra slices (120 total). This is the picture that we picked out (sorry for the iphone pic). Ours will be just 3 tiers with the design on tiers 1 and 3. Tier 2 will be smooth/plain with a dark blue ribbon and a single peacock feather.

I visited two bakeries this weekend.  One baker quoted me around 450 and the other 620….for the same exact type of cake.  This is the norm for my area (approx 4.25-5.95 per slice).  The greatest part (for me) is that I thought the cheaper bakery’s cake was delicious, whereas I didn’t even like the more expensive one’s cake.

Ours was $300 for 120 servings – sorry for the huge pic… not sure why it’s doing that.

My baker charged $2 per slice and didn’t charge extra for details.  So I bought a cake for 75 and after the delivery fee it came out to $200.  This was a deal as most of the baker’s in the area charge $3-$4 per slice.
