My wedding is 3 months away and I have been so busy booking vendors and working on invitations I’ve given almost NO thought to the actual timeline of events. We aren’t having a church wedding and I’ve only been to 2 non-religious ceremonies, both which I stood in. A destination wedding and one at a golf course. Neither had readings, just a few words from the officiant, vows, exchange of rings, etc. I was always under the impression that non-religious ceremonies don’t have readings but now that I’m trying to plan the ceremony and reading up online I’m realizing that it’s still pretty common to have readings at secular weddings and I’m wondering how many of you had readings at your non-religious weddings and how did you fit them in? We were planning on having a “quick & dirty” 15ish minute ceremony so we could move onto the celebrations (ceremony and reception are at the same venue and we only have 8 hours so the longer the ceremony the less time we have for the reception)
I’m also drawing a blank on the reception timeline. We are doing very minimal speeches and for some reason I cant seem to remember when the speeches took place during every wedding I’ve ever been to! Right now I’m thinking we will do the receiving line, grand entrance right into first dance, start the speeches while dinner begins (MOH, best man, parents, then us), cut the cake as soon as dinner ends, bouquet toss, then party! Does this sound normal or should I move things around a bit?
