I had massive angst over the clutch bag that would accompany me on my wedding day, it didn’t matter to me it would mainly lay on a table, be carried by someone else assisting me, not really be part of the photo sessions etc – it had to be Just Right!
The first one I found and bought (very complicated process getting it to the UK causing untold stress – I eventually collected it from my now-in laws when I had to travel to the US for a funeral!):
by Rafe: (the problem was that it was extremely heavy, chunky – as in weirdly wide – no strap, and just not delicate looking in person, I felt like I was handling a rugby ball)

I sent it back… And fixed my eyes on and ordered:
by Roger Vivier:

The problem? I actually wanted only silver-coloured accessories due to my platinum jewellery…in person the bag actually looked…corporate? If that can be said about what is clearly an elegant evening purse.

I received a refund and moved on to:
Alexander McQueen:

The problem? It seemed to photograph “dark” and while looking light pink in the stock photo and bright light of the store, as soon as the shop girl pointed out it was gold metallic leather that’s all I could see and decided against…:

And THEN, finally I found The One: I realised I had no “something blue” for my wedding…and through another more or less complicated process acquired this one of a kind blue velvet and baguette crystal bag with blue stone clasp:
by Judith Leiber

It was of course the most expensive out of all the bags I was choosing between but I loved every second of its precence at my wedding! Here is a rare photo of me actually seen carrying it at the very end of the wedding (this is me making hubby take photos of me in this beautiful staircase at the hotel when we got back there close to 2am! Yes, first shot of me holding that all important bag: and it’s while stumbling out of focus down a staircase at 2am!) π°π:

There aren’t any photos of mine but I had an ivory pearlescent clutch that I loved but spent most of the time tucked away or with my awesome sister. π

autumn_amber: have you used it again? I’m justifying the cost of mine that I’ll get use of it again βΊοΈ

annelise210516: haha! No, not yet but wedding was only 6 weeks ago so there’s still time. You’ve got me thinking, I might use it for a family member’s wedding this summer. Your elegant purse is perfect and just waiting to be rolled out again. And you look gorgeous stumbling down stairs at 2am! I’d look a zombie!

lesbeeinlove: thank you! this wedding definitely raised my threshold for what I would normally find acceptable to spend on any number of items! Before the wedding I was a bit worried I would have a sudden realisation of snapping out of it and thinking to myself why on Earth was that So important to me?! Funnily though none of the really expensive items are a regret as they feel absolutely well worth it, I only wish I’d spent more in the areas I didn’t! πΈπΌ
autumn_amber: oooh congratulations!! Sounds like a great idea to get use of your wedding clutch at other weddings! I have my clutch with me for my honeymoon (got married a week ago!) but I have a feeling I’ll have more suitable occasions to use it back home, I’m already seeing it as my New Years Eve clutch! Now I just have to find a gorgeous midnight blue dress…if only I had purchased This a while back (couldn’t be justified amidst wedding expenses!):

mrsbullwinkle: it’s super pretty, I love the pattern of the beading, a little bit Art Deco!

annelise210516:Β You definitely went with the right option. If you don’t mind sharing, who designed your dress?

aliceandrews: thank you! The dress is by Lazaro, I fell completely in love with it, it was also in the very last bridal shop I went to, I just had this feeling I had to go to just one more shop…I shortlisted a number of gowns for the appointment to try from their website and this was my No1 contender and it lived up to it in person Even better than the model pictures. I bought it before I knew which country we would have the wedding in, I was sure it would work equally well at the One and Only Ocean Club Bahamas or Lake Como, Côte d’Azur or as it happened: in Stockholm!
