I need help. So I’ve always liked purple and I knew for 100% sure that my wedding color would be purple. Then I fell in love with the bright yellow and was going to incorporate it with purple. So what is my problem? Every time I go buy something “purple”, I would try to take pictures of the products to see what they would look like and for some reason, they always look blue in pictures. I’ve tried all shades of purple to see which ones would look good and none of them do. I don’t know if it’s my camera or the lighting or whatever. I wanted to order some parasols, but the purple/lavender colors just don’t even look good. Then I just fell in love with Mrs. Hot Wings’ colors. They look absolutely gorgeous. Now I don’t know what to do because I always thought purple would be my color. I know this seems really silly, but I’m stuck. My wedding is about 7 months away and I can’t do any planning until I have my color scheme. I don’t know if I should just forget the color that I’ve always thought was my favorite or go with Mrs. Hot Wings’ colors.
Thank you bees!

Are you using lavender, which has more of a blue undertone? I’m leaning more towards lilac, which has more pink in it… hope this helps!

If you’re not pleased with the color that you “thought” you wanted, I say move on to more appealing options. At this stage in the game, you have to be really open to different ideas, consider them all, then settle on one. I know that I couldn’t plan a thing until I was set on my colors, but that’s just how I am. If you fell in love with Mrs. Hot Wings’ colors, and know you won’t change your mind again, pick those or something similar. Even the fact that you’re considering others means you aren’t happy with your original purple thought.
My favorite color in the world is lime green. It was my first instict for our wedding, but I didn’t want it to look overwhelming, I didn’t know what to pair it with, it really didn’t go with our beach theme, etc… So I found another scheme that worked and that I loved, but was sad to let the green go! We decided on raspberry pink, cobalt blue, and champagne/sand…. nothing remotely close to green! Just find something that works for you, and if you love it, decide on it and go!

I knew I wanted purples, too! Here’s how my “purples” turned out. I liked how the colors turned out except for the cake. That looked blue and is not the color I asked for! Everything else I liked, though. Which purples do you like? I used lavendar and dark purples, mainly.

i’ll tell ya – there are about a million different variations of purple! if it’s photographing blue, it’s because of the undertones. i would suggest you look for purples with more of a red undertone. that would play nicely with the yellow, kind of like this:

What’s mrs. hot wings’ colors?
I’m also using purple, but with a light shade (lavender) and darker richer shade (eggplant) and possibly green as my contrast color (haven’t decided for sure yet though).

@MissMaine…it’s good to know that you decided to use your favorite color. Maybe I can do that too!! It is really hard for me right now because I cannot plan anything until I get my colors picked out. It is definitely something to think about. I need to give myself a deadline and pick a color and never look back.
@Jenn23…That is what I am afraid of. I would not be happy with those colors. They are too “blue” for me. The lavender doesn’t even really look lavender. Purple is a really hard color to photograph. I love the bouquet though. Absolutely gorgeous!
@Elliestan…I will try to look into that and see if the colors would turn out differently.
@bb44…here is a link for you to look at Mrs. Hot Wings’ colors

One thing I quickly realized as I planned was that what I always thought I knew I wanted, wasn’t necessarily what I really wanted when it came down to it. For one thing, I had never really thought much about it, just made some base assumptions, and when I started seeing all the inspiration out there, I fell in love with totally new things that I never would have thought of before.
If I were you, I’d go with the blue, with pops of yellow AND purple – still having your purple, just not as the primary tone, and getting to use the colors/inspiration you’ve fallen in love with!

@daydreamwanderer…I thought about that, but I don’t know if blue and purple would compliment each other since they are too close in the family. I thought about adding the yellow too, but I was advised against it for having too many colors…lol…I’ve collected so many things online over the years that is in the purple family, now I might have to start all over again. I think I’m gonna put together an inspiration board, maybe that will help me better decide.
Thank you all for great tips. Definitely something to think about. I’m gonna give myself 2-week deadline and I will never look back again (hopefully not).

If someone seriously told you two accent colors (3 colors total) would make for too many colors, they’re off their rocker – we had like five different colors in our wedding! Two shades of blue, orange, yellow and bright pink, and everyone loved it!
I think if you pick the right shades of blue and purple, they can definitely go together.
