Has anyone else bumped up against team colors while trying to pick wedding colors? I have wavered and flip flopped more than I care to admit about what colors stuff should be for our wedding … ultimately I don’t think I can say we even have a palatte, and we’re not going to in the end.
Lately any combination I try is met with the reaction, “Oh, like [University]’s colors!”
Varied shades of blue with pops of orange? My FMIL’s reaction, “But navy and orange are [FI’s alma mater’s rival school] colors!”
Okay, orange is too hard anyway, how about varied shades of blue and light yellow? Dad’s reaction? “Go Blue!” [University of Michigan, whose colors are a deep blue and maize, a mustard like color]
How do I translate that I mean a combination of these (courtsey of Snippet and Ink):

I think it you keep your colours soft and more on the pastel side then people won’t think of team colours. Saying ‘Blue and Yellow’ might making people think Michigan, but ‘Robin’s egg blue and buttercream yellow’ doesn’t scream team pride, lol.
I’m having trouble with colours. the only combo S likes is Red/Black/White, which are his team colours, and our teams are rivals. So I said ANYTHING but that and he won’t budge. Any combo I suggest is met with ‘no’. So looks like he might not be invited to the wedding, lol. We can get married at the courthouse and then I’ll go to the reception alone haha.

My Fiance did the same thing. I wanted to do red with silver accents. The bridesmaids would be in red dresses and the guys would be in black tuxes. Well Fiance and I both went to Georgia Tech and our arch rival’s colors (UGA) are black and red and apparently it was going to look like a UGA wedding (oh boys …. no one attending the wedding would actually think that! – lol)
So we ended up switching to red with gold accents (still black tuxes and such though, but the gold seemed to make him feel better). And I actually like the gold much better than I had liked silver so it all turned out perfectly!

hah! i’m guilty of choosing my wedding colors because they are my alma mater’s colors! i’m a rabid tar heel fan (UNC-Chapel Hill) and the sky blue, – as we call it “carolina blue” -, black, and white are just the prettiest combo around for me! can’t help myself. GO HEELS! GO WEDDING! 😉

Well if it makes you feel better, I decided on Cobalt, Navy, Yellow and Gray and then a couple months later had the “those are Michigan colors” – HELLO – I live in COLUMBUS, OHIO.
oh well! I love the palette. There is nothing sporty about our wedding.
I think the key is to have multiple colors – So now instead of saying ‘blue and yellow” I say “bright blue, navy, grays, yellows – all of them” and that has diffused too much team association.

lol i just mentioned this to my Fiance. I picked blue and green with lots of gold. Well I was planning on doing blue and gold invites but when i got the paper samples in the gold was VERY mustardy and i was like omg michigan colors i cant do it haha. (I live in cbus too! although Fiance is actually a michigan fan… i still couldn’t do it)

Oh – and to add to mine – Fiance actually vetoed FMIL’s and my favorite rehearsal dinner invite because “it looked UGA”! It had a red and black border around it! So we ended up doing the same invitation with a different color scheme since our wedding colors aren’t actually being used in the rehearsal anyway. But still …. the things that guys think of!

we had yellow and purple baloons in our e pics and Future Mother-In-Law mentioned that those were *gasp* husky colors. We are ducks lol.
