I just lined up two different meetings with potential wedding coordinators tomorrow. I’m so excited! Time to get this ball rolling! To the bees who had coordinators, did it make the process so much easier for you?

I have a day-of coordinator and I am so glad I do. Even though she is really only in charge of day-of I can all and email her unlimitedly to ask questions. Also the day of I will not have to worry about paying people/ tipping them. It will all be figured out before hand and she will do it all. Also you don’t want your family or wedding party setting up/ cleaning up, etc.
Things that were important to me for a planner:
1. They were familiar with the area and vendors in the area. We will either book people she trusts, or if anything goes wrong she will know where and how to fix it ASAP, hopefully without me even knowing something is wrong.
2. I also talked to her about what type of emergencies she has dealt with. I think along with having someone highly organized and competent, creatively thinking on your feet is important. You are spendning so much $ on one day, and everything needs to fall together. Wedding planners need to be good at quick fixes and creative solutions.
3. Obvously that she is very organized. I am a lot type-A and meticulous about planning, and it would bother me if I was out planning the planner. She should be thinking of ideas and considerations I am not thinking of.
So those are my two cents. Have fun meeting with the planners, I had a lot of fun meeting with mine. There is a moment were you realize “we are actually getting this done!”
Something I liked that my planner did is she told me that if I was feeling pressure from anyone, friends or family, to do something a certain way, and I didn’t want to do it that way to blame her and say “Oh I talked to Cortney and she said that doesn’t work out well” or something to that effect. I thought that was sweet she was willing to take the hit to make me happy.

I’m in the earliest stages of planning but I have a wedding planner. I haven’t used her much yet just because right now I am primarily doing stuff I can handle on my own. But when I’ve talked to her she’s been wonderful and I know a handful of people who have used her and they’ve all had rave reviews. I think it’ll make the entire process so much easier, and I’m already looking forward to not having to stress the day of and week of the wedding.

Did you hire a planner? I’m looking at planners in Chicago too. One quoted me at 5,000 and another at 8,000. What quotes are you getting?

Yes, we did hire a planner who has already been so helpful! We are paying $21,000 for ours, which is 12% of our $175,000 budget. I think most planners charge an average of 10-15% of whatever your budget is. Then again, other planners may charge hourly. I know there are also some who charge by the task, so that might be a good idea if you are very limited in what you want him/her to contribute!
Let me know if I can be of any other help. Happy Planning! 🙂
