I’d go ahead and do 90. Some people will want more than one. And if you have leftovers, well…yay!

I had a casual wedding, so we just put the cupcakes out next to the taco bar. No real setup involved. We had around 75 people in attendance and got 120 cupcakes – we ended up with lots of leftovers, tbh.

The rule of thumb (assuming no other desserts) is 1.5 cupcakes per person when having only one flavor.

1.75-2 per person if you are going to have multiple flavors of cupcakes available (also dependent on how much other food there will be – full dinner vs. Light apps).

1-1.25 per person if only one flavor and if there will be other desserts available and depending on how much other food is available.

That rule has never left me with more than a half dozen cupcakes leftover and I bake cupcakes for a lot of events.

We did cupcakes and I was concerned about people taking extras, so we boxed them up with a cute sticker and them and had the catering company put them at every place setting, as they would typically do with cake.

We ended up doing mini-cupcakes, and had almost 200 people at our wedding.  I don’t have a photo handy, but essentially a large regtangular table was littered with cupcakes and we had two “towers” that also had cupcakes.  I believe we did 2.5/guest (but they were really like one biters)- so it was a lot- but it looked really fun and no joke- I think we had maybe 15 left over at the end of the night.  It was awesome!

We’re doing cupcakes.  We were going to do about 4 flavors, what our baker suggested.  Probably go with 1.5-2 pp as well.  My husband to be thought that he and I needed a cake to cut, so the baker is making a small 6″ cake as well.  I think it will be fun and tasty!

Here was my cupcake tree. For a 50 guest wedding we had an exorbitant amount of cake/cupcakes (the cake was the most important aspect for me besides acquiring a husband).  We had 6 different cupcake flavors and the cutting cake was it’s own flavor Some were sugar free and some were not. All were delicious.  “Let them eat cake!”

This was our cupcake set up for 65 guests. I overestimated how many we needed (we had like 2 per guest) but loved having lots of leftovers. We had 4 different flavors.

We had about 30 guests and I ordered 6 dozen in 7 different flavors. I had boxes for folks to take some home as well, so they also served as my favors.

We also had a small 6″ round cake to cut, tho I believe that we only ate like one bite each.

My Father-In-Law built a custom stand for me, cake was on top and the cupcakes were all arranged below it. It was so pretty.

I love the idea of placing small boxes at each place setting so that guests can take a cupcake home with them 🙂 You can have your MC or DJ remind everyone a couple hours after dinner that they are welcome to box up a cupcake to take home.
