I’m looking for a yummy cupcake place that’s also affordable.
I originally thought of doing this to save money, but a lot of these popular cupcake places charge $3+ that it really wouldn’t save that much money at all!
We’re having around 200 guests, so I’m thinking of getting about 100 cupcakes with a small cake to cut. Do you know any place that has cupcakes for 2$ or under? They can be small, too. 🙂
Also, while at it, who are you bees using for your cake? We went cake tasting at King’s Hawaiian in Torrance and Susina in LA. King’s was decent and pretty cheap (under 400) while Susina added up quickly when we added the delivery/set up fee of $175. (yikes!) We like the fluffy, not too sweet kinds…
THANKS, bees!! 🙂

Not sure of the exact price, but Porto’s Bakery (in Glendale and Burbank) has incredibly delicious cupcakes and really good cake, too, and it’s pretty darn affordable. Their red velvet cupcake kind of blew my mind. 😉 We used them for our wedding cake, and we didn’t pay very much for a VERY delicious cake.

We were thinking about going there but didn’t think it would be that affordable. We’ll definitely make an apmt and try them out then. THANKS!!!!!!

i can only really speak for northeast l.a. but..
for cupcakes i love auntie em’s in eagle rock…they have 3 different sizes so maybe you can pick the size that fits your budget? don’t remember how much they are but it was nothing like sprinkles etc, just realllllllly yummy cupcakes.
we’re getting our cake @ porto’s, spending less than less than $400, delivery included… http://www.portosbakery.com/

My brother in law is a cupcake addict and says he thinks Yummy Cupcakes is the best in LA county. They aren’t cheap though but they do come various sizes so they may work for you. I haven’t been there so can’t personally vouch for them. As far as regular cake (not in cupcake form), King’s Hawaiian is good. Not a huge fan of the upscale bakeries since they tend to focus more on brand than anything else. Have you browsed through the new vendor review section (link at middle right of page) to see who all is available you can get a tasting with?
As evidenced by prices, unless you get the cupcakes from the grocery which is very limited in selection, you will spend more for cupcakes than regular cake.

You should check out this place. They look really cute but not sure on the price.

I highly recommend Porto’s in Glendale. They are super helpful and friendly and they know what they’re doing!
The woman we worked with is Lourdes (Lulu) and her # is 818-956-5996 ext 252
You have to try the GUAVA filled cake– it’s to die for!! 🙂

I don’t live in LA, but wanted to give a nod to craigslist.
I actually found the lady that did my cupcakes on craigslist, she was just starting out in her biz and I liked the pics she had of her work, so I met her had a tasting & loved them! They were waaay less then any bakeries I found and tasted great!

No prob! We spent $375 for a 180-person cake + flowers… I think it was $425 with delivery, just for reference. That was for a three-tier, decorated cake; their smaller cakes are INCREDIBLY cheap (think $13 for a round cake with white buttercream, of a decent size for cutting, if that’s what you’re doing, or $20 if the cake is strawberry :). The sheets are also really cheap; we served one at the rehearsal dinner for about $1 per person. 😉 We had their cupcakes at my bridal shower so I wasn’t involved in the pricing, but I know for certain they were less than $3 (and I think less than $2) each. They also make mini-cupcakes, which of course are cheaper!

I’m using Yummy cupcakes in burbank and the average price for a reg size cupcake is $2.75. But they do have extremely great cupcakes, so it’s worth the price for me!!

Not sure what part of LA your in (I am assuming pretty far south if you are considering Kings). However, we will be using http://www.higglets.com This is a woman working out of Camarillo (ventura county). My sister used her for her wedding cupcakes and the were super tasty! She does tons off different flavors (probably do anything you can think of) and VERY reasonable ($25/dozen…$15/dozen for minis (this is our plan)). Good luck!
