I think having the father/daughter and mother/son dances before the first dance with your new husband is the more traditional way of doing it.  And your timeline for doing the dances after the dinner and then cake cutting sounds fine.  It’s sounds like your timing of events is perfect!

If you are looking for an alternative, I’ll share what we did.  When the cocktail hour ended, my husband and I were announced and immediately did our first dance.  We had an upbeat song and a (partially) choreographed first dance, so it kinda pumped everyone up.  After that we did the plated dinner, then the father/daughter and mother/son dance and lasty the cake cutting.  You can really structure it anyway you want, but if you want formality and tradition, do it the way you were planning.  🙂
