- Wedding: October 2012
I’ve been lurking for a while, and finally just joined. Hoping you guys can help me out with a planning problem… sorry this is so long!
My Fiance and I decided we would get married on October 20, 2012 because that will be our four year anniversary. It’s also a Saturday and we know we are off from work that day (rotation schedule – vacation is by bidding and can’t be guaranteed until next Feb.). Everything coming together like that makes the 20th really special to us and seem perfect. I had told my family to plan for October but hadn’t mentioned our specific date. My grandmother just told me that my second cousin’s bat mitzvah was scheduled for that date in CA. For those of you unfamiliar, a bat mitzvah is a part of the Jewish religion when a teenage girl becomes an “adult” – aka a special service and big party. I’m not close with them, but my grandmother is. She told me to choose whatever day we wanted, and she would obviously be at our wedding… but she really wanted to go/told them she would go to the bat mitzvah.
We just found the perfect place, and it is totally open every weekend in October 2012. The only other Saturday that we know we’re not working would be October 6, which is Columbus Day weekend. So do we change our date to accommodate a second cousin I barely know and possibly upset some family for taking up their holiday weekend (my whole family will have to travel to KY), or keep this date and make my grandmother miss the bat mitzvah?
